Webb and Schmitt lead the way

SF 6  LA 2

Logan Webb kicked ass tonight in Los Angeles and subdued the Dodgers with seven innings of two-hit ball. He got a big lift in the 3rd when Casey Schmitt hit a grand slam. Yoshinobu Yamamoto walked three batters—Jung Hoo Lee, Heliot Ramos, and Wilmer Flores—and with two outs Schmitt blasted one deep into the left field bleachers. THAT was a big hit!

Tyler Rogers had an easy 8th and with Camilo Doval unavailable Ryan Walker got the call for the 9th. He walked Mookie Betts to open the frame but got the next three outs to nail down the save. The Giants got a huge win to open the series and shove themselves into a tie for first place in the NL West.

It was a good night for baseball.

Tomorrow night's game is also at 7:10 Pacific. Landen Roupp gets the start against Clayton Kershaw.

Go Giants!

Perhaps it was a metaphorical save, but I don't think it was a save situation. Also, I thought that Webb's first run should not have been earned. Yaz made a great throw, and the runner was tagged out. And almost a whole second later as the catcher fell forward the ball came out of his glove as he hit the ground. He had it, then had a slight bobble and as he fell to the ground the ball came out. Has to be an error on the catcher. Anyway he made up for it with his first giants hit being a homerun. Always good to beat the Dodgers, and to give Webb some run support. I think Webb has given up a home run in each of his last 3 outings, after only giving up 3 homers in his first 12 outings. Caught the bums a little cold today after their day off, but Roberts just used 2 pitchers, trying to give the Dodger pen some extra rest. Dodgers really complain about the strike zone much more demonstratively than the Giants do. But Casey, might Casey, came through tonight. The bobbled ball in the ninth vs. Denver was costly, so he did a good job of bouncing back both in the field and at the plate.

Indeed it was a "metaphorical" save! But I felt like it was a save situation with the importance of the game and all.

Webb also walked three guys which is not his usual thing. But he only allowed two hits and he got that big DP.

Error on the catcher for sure.
