GIANTS WIN!

The San Francisco Giants went out for opening day, in Los Angeles, without Madison Bumgarner, and without closer Mark Melancon against Clayton Kershaw.  And FUCK YES, THEY WON.

Ty Blach drew the opening day assignment.  Why not?  His era in Los Angeles was 1.67 and he was 2 and 2 out of 7 games vs Kershaw.   His numbers improved.

Clayton Kershaw is a hell of a pitcher.  He had not given up a single run in spring training.  He gave up only 1 today.  That was a 5th inning, no one on blast to Joe "Pan the Man" Panik.  He gave up 8 hits in 6 innings, though and the Giants should have probably had another couple of runs.  But really good pitchers don't buckle under pressure, and his one mistake was the Giants only score.

Ty Blach gave us 5 innings, 81 pitches, 3 hits and 3 walks.  He looked a bit shaky towards the end of the 5th, but Josh Osich (1 walk, 0 hits), Cory Gearrin (2 hits), Tony Watson (3 strikeouts after K'ing 0 all spring, 1 walk) and Hunter Strickland (1 leadoff hit) held LA scoreless.  That potent line-up got a total of 6 hits.

Giants had 8 hits and 2 walks.  Those were all against Kershaw.  Their relievers, for 3 innings, did not allow a baserunner.  Every Giant in the starting lineup had a hit, except Buster Posey who got 2 walks, and Evan Longoria.  Hunter Pence had 2, and Joe Panik had 2, and the only rbi.

Giants 1, doggers 0.  It's baseball season!

I was watching ESPN even though it was 20 seconds or so behind the radio. TV volume was off so I could hear Jon, Kruk and Kuip. When the game was over, ESPN cut to a booth with Jon and Flem in it. But it turned out not to be Jon, but some guy named Dave Ross. Too bad, Jon and Flem would make an excellent broadcast team.

Wow. That was just great. A fabulous, taut, well-played game and THE GIANTS CAME OUT ON TOP. Wow. I loved it. What a great way to start the season.

I thought Longoria looked very polished at third base. Calling off Posey and basket-catching that foul pop was VSC personified. And a huge effort from the pen: Osich, Gearrin!, Watson, Strickland. Lights out, baby.

Let's keep that positive vibe going, man.

watching the game from the east coast. I did not get the giants feed which pissed me off. I had only the ESPN feed. The K zone box available all game, just showed how much extra strike space that Kershaw gets. I guess he has earned it. The betting odds on the game were so high on the dodgers, that if one bet on the giants in a legal forum, he/she had a nice take. So far team remains undefeated.

I’m liking the new Osich. Something happened to him during the off season and he seems like a new weapon. Watson looked very tough too. I still am not sold on Gearrin but we will see.

Blach is Kershaw kryptonite. Good to know.

Great win.

Totally enjoyable.

Gonna forget those 3 late-inning-hangers that seemed destined for Santa Barbara and almost made swallow my tongue.

I thought for sure Strickland was going to fail- single, homer, game over. Last year's team could always find a way to lose, and the bullpen was worthless.
A great start. Fuck the Dodgers. Fuck Kershaw.

I noticed that Texas picked up Tommy Joseph and sent him down. The guy hit 247, the last two years with 810 AB's but also has 43 homers. I know he is a below average fielder, but this guy cannot make a major league 25 man roster? I mention him, because I think he was part of the Hunter Pence trade.
