Bullpen blows it

COL 5  SF 4
The Giants wasted a 4-2 lead in the 5th and wound up losing in Colorado. Sam Selman and Reyes Moronta couldn't get it done. I suppose it is only fair to mention that Sam Dyson had a rough debut in Minnesota, giving up three runs in a Twins loss. Ah well, these things happen. The Giants need to score more than four runs when they play in Denver.

Madison Bumgarner goes tomorrow, 5:10 Pacific.

GO GIANTS!

Ty Blach was DFA'd and claimed by the Orioles. Dan Winkler cleared waivers and reports to River Cats.

Giants blew their 10th save this season. Both last season and the season before they had 30 blown saves!

Interesting times ahead. Yaz has been doing a great job and that allowed the Giants to DFA Tyler Austin. But now they have Joe McCarthy in AAA to put pressure on Yaz to keep his spot, not to mention calling up Steven Duggar, giving him another shot, and hoping he'll put pressure on Kevin Pillar. They still have Austin Slater, but they also have FNG Jaylin Davis who is knocking on the door. And when Alex Dickerson returns there will be a bit of a roster crunch in the OF. Mike Gerber is still in the mix, too. The team has definitely improved its OF possibilities. Let's hope it pays off.

Mauricio Dubon will likely get a callup, certainly when they expand the rosters, and could be a legit backup at short for BCraw and maybe even platoon or start at SS or 2B (more likely) next season. That's intriguing. We are also seeing a the new wave in the relief corps and have some exciting players on the cusp like Tyler Rogers and Fernando Abad.

It was our strength that we traded away, yet giants come back and win on Saturday in a bit of a bizarre game. Bumgarner extremely unlucky as a can of corn fly ball was not fielded by Duggar, Yaz, or Crawford, each of whom could have made the play. The runner eventually scored. Then on a relay throw to the plate Gennett was so far off line, that Arenado made a dash for the plate, and scored. It was ruled an error, and yet, all 5 runs off of Bumgarner were called earned. Duggar made a game saving catch taking a sure home run away from the Rockies. But after scoring 4 runs in the first inning, the giants continued to place base runners every inning. They had 14 hits, 7 of which were of the extra-base variety, 6 walks and a hit batsman, yet only scored 2 more runs on the night at Coors. Only 6 runs at Coors, despite having runners on base and in scoring position every inning. Yet, Despite giving up two hits with a one run lead in the ninth, Smith struck out the side. He earned his pay right there. Gerardo Parra pitched relief today, and gave up 5 runs without getting an out. Time for the giants to put together an August run. 4 runs for Bumgarner in the first and despite some bad luck he could not hold it. The giants do win during another Bumgarner start. Doesn't matter how ugly these wins are, wins are wins.
