David Laurilia of FanGraphs writes a "Sunday Notes" column that is the best thing on that site. If you need good stuff to read about baseball you should check out his weekend posts. Last week he took a quick look at Buster Posey. We won't get to see Buster play ball again but we can certainly re-visit his career accomplishments. What fortunate fans we were to see him play! Laurilia's January 9th article is titled "Is Buster Posey One of the Best Catchers in MLB History?" and I recommend that you read it. It's short. Laurilia makes his points without a lot of B.S.

Jay Jaffe at FanGraphs evaluates the careers of all retired, HOF-eligible players. Tim Lincecum was the next guy on his list:

It's a fun read and you should check it out. There's never too much Timmy content!
There's not going to be a 2022 MLB Season, is there? Less than 3 weeks before Report Date, & talks aren't even happening, let alone progressing. This is flat-out stupid.
Owners aren't going to budge on the issues most important to the players. The sad part is that they (1) CAN make the changes and (2) SHOULD make the changes. But they are billionaire dickheads.
Players need MLB. Owners don't. They'll be billionaires whether there are games or not.
I'd like to see Congress get rid of the MLB anti-trust exemption. That might make the owners more willing to negotiate.
Did anyone read the Buster post? Do you think he's one of the best catchers of all-time?
I read the post, & I agree w/ nearly all of it. And, yes, I do think that he's one of the greatest of all time. What I think hurts his case w/ a lot of people is a relatively short MLB career - but, the Catchers who did have longer careers either didn't play College ball, played many Games at other positions, or both.
Player / Owner dynamic seems immovable. Inducing a system by which Players get compensated more closely in accordance w/ their years of peak performance is needed. But, the incentive to create that doesn't exist for either veteran Players or Owners. So, the Minor Leaguers & less experienced ML-ers suck wind, & for quite a few years. And, if they don't stay healthy beyond their years of so-called 'Team Control', they never cash in.
It's almost like a pyramid scheme. The guys at the top get a lot but everyone at the bottom "sucks wind."
And Buster was certainly awesome. He's one of those guys who made things look easy. He had a sort of effortless grace.
