The Giants got a much-needed win this afternoon in Oakland after a wild and perilous finish. Blake Snell threw another great game (7 IP, 1 R, 10 K) but was matched by the A's JP Sears (7-2/3 IP, 1 R, 9 K). Once again the lineup couldn't get anything going. Finally in the 10th they got a leadoff homer on the first pitch from Jerar Encarnacion and Michael Conforto followed with another bomb. Adding in the Manfred Man that's a 4-1 lead. An error from Brett Wisely let in a run to start the bottom half, and Ryan Walker walked the next batter and then gave up a hit to load the bases. No problem--he struck out the next three guys.
Next the team travels back across the Bay to play the White Sox who are historically bad (.240 win percentage). This is without doubt the best opportunity for a sweep that the schedule presents. The Marlins come to SF at the end of the month and that's the second-best chance.
It's Harrison-Ray-Webb for the three-game set. Tomorrow night and Tuesday are at 6:45 and the getaway game on Wednesday is at 12:45 (PT). Thursday's an off-day before a weekend series in Seattle.
Go Giants!

p.s. This was Game 126, the end of seasonal inning number seven. The Giants are exactly .500 (63-63). There are 36 games left to play and they are ten games back in the division and four games back in the wild card.

Snell, of course, got no decision. In the last 5 games, he has struck out 55 batters, which I heard the announcers say is a Giants record. That is in 34 1/3 innings. In that stretch, he has given up only 4 runs, 3 of them in 1 game. The Giants won that game, however, and 4 of the 5. Amazing, with that kind of performance, the punchless Giants could only put 2 wins on his record.
