Giants power-stomp Snakes

SF 11  ARI 0

Not only did the Giants claw their way back to .500 (79-79) with last night's thumping win they also pushed their run difference into positive territory (+7). Five home runs from the lineup and six scoreless frames from Logan Webb were too much for the Diamondbacks. Arizona might be watching its Wild Card chances slip away. This game was over in the 3rd inning. Tristan Beck threw a scoreless 7th and Austin Warren got the last six outs.

The Giants have won five straight scoring thirty runs and allowing only four. Mason Black gets the start tonight.

Let's get a sweep!

From FZ's conversation with Andrew Baggerly in the Athletic, Sept. 24: "...I think we're going to go into next year with the best group of young players we've had on the roster since I've been here, both on the position player side, (and) on the pitching side." I have to agree.

Yeah. I think this is when a PoBO/GM gets evaluated. Do the minor leagues produce major league talent? It can take a decade to assess that. At least with FZ & Co. the reckoning is here, in 2025 and even 2026.

Look at the Padres. Look how long it took for them to finally put all the pieces together. AJ Preller has been there since 2014.

I hope ownership keeps the band together. Every exec will make bad moves, I can live with those. I think continuity is important because ballplayers take a long time to mature. It's a slow process relative to other sports. Once you have a good core then you can get the impact free agents. They've missed out on big ones but at least they took a swing. No one ever hit a homer by watching a pitch go by.

Looks like Roupp-Snell-Birdsong for the final three at home.

I am still hoping to see Raye get a few innings in before the end of the year. How high should the giants go to try to retain Snell? Will the Yankees, Dodgers, Padres, Dbacks, Mets, Phillies go after Snell? If he signs with the Dodgers or Padres, what does that mean for the giants? That is what I never liked about these opt out deals. If a guy does poorly, we get to keep him. If a guy does okay or even better, we lose him. We fixed Manaea last year and let him go as we probably could have made a reasonable deal to keep him. We traded for Raye but knew he was not available for most of the year and lets hope we still have him for 2025, and that he is healthy. A lot of young talent knocking on the door, but I would still like a few healthy established ptichers. If Webb gets hurt, there goes the rotation. Quite a few young guys who look like they can possibly be solid 3, 4, or 5 guys in the rotation. But we all can see what a healthy Snell did for the rotation. I don't know what is too high for Snell. If some team wants to give him 6 years I doubt the giants will be able to match them. But what about a deal where he pulls an Ohtani, where he defers much of the money for later years? Don't think I would feel good about going higher than 4 years at 140 million, but what I have been reading suggests more. I guess we will have to see how the market shakes out. How much he likes to play for Melvin. and of course how much influence Webb and Posey have on him to stay. Giants once again have showed us that they have the hitters who can hit well over 100 homers on the road, but are pressed to get to 70 homers at home. It has been good to see that Webb's velocity has actually ticked up a bit toward the end of the season.

I think they should try to sign Snell. And they should go after Juan Soto. They'll probably wind up with Ha-Seong Kim and Max Fried, but it is worth a shot. Soto will command the biggest deal and I'm sure the Yankees will go all out to keep him.

Probably a waste of time to go after Sosa. Real targets are ok. Fried is ok, Snell if healthy would be better. A lot of young pitchers on the giants not far off. Could have used an additional solid lefty in the bullpen. An outfield of Fitzgerald, Lee, Ramos, Matos, and McCrae. only if McCrae becomes more of a contact hitter, so we do not waste his speed. That would allow Schmidt to move back to the infield, either at short or second, and not sure about Luciano, but he should be in the mix. Perhaps Encarnacion could be a relatively cheap DH, with perhaps a platoon lefty. Our new young stud first baseman, may or may not be ready for next year. I wonder if Sabel will be ready to be the back up catcher. Wade and Flores could platoon until our first baseman is ready to go. Or perhaps Wade and Flores could go. Meckler could take Yaz's spot, or they could keep Yaz, Conforto will probably hit 30 homers for another team next year if he is healthy. Snell should be a priority unless the cost gets totally out of hand.
