Clutch win takes series

SF 4  MIL 3

The Giants took two of three from both the Mets and the Pirates at the start of the month but went 4-10 right after that. Today they came from behind to win a ballgame on the road and take two of three from the high-flying Brewers. Heliot Ramos drove in two with a two-out hit in the 9th and turned a 3-2 deficit into a 4-3 lead. Ryan Walker got the final three outs to earn the save. It was another big day for Luis Matos who hit a two-run homer in the 2nd to give Robbie Ray an early lead. He also singled in the 9th after Chapman's double and ahead of Ramos' single and scored the go-ahead run.

FNGs Joel Peguero (1-2/3 IP), Matt Gage (1/3 IP), and José Buttó (1 IP) stepped up in relief of Ray and all had clean sheets. Walker gave up a hit in the 9th but also whiffed two.

I like to say "who are these guys?" when the Giants play a clean, spirited game. Perhaps we are getting a preview of the 2026 club. Regardless, it's always better when they win!

A six-game homestand starts Tuesday night when the Cubs (6:45 PT) are in town for the first three. The Orioles will be in San Francisco for the weekend set. Justin Verlander's on the hill.

Go Giants!

cosidering Jung Hoo Lee made the second best catch of the week according to the MLB channel's plays of the week, I was surprised to find that two of the major fielding metric services rate Lee as one of the worst fielding center fielders in the game. I guess my eye test says he is not that bad, but they say he gets to way fewer balls than most center fielders. I was a bit surprised because except for a couple of miscue's this year he seems like a decent defender. Of course they rate Ramos as one of the worst left fielders in the game, but for me Ramos is more erratic. He sometimes makes some really good catches, and other times completely misplays some balls. I was surprised the used a pinch runner for him in today's game in the ninth inning, I wonder if he has some kind of day to day nagging injury.

I think Lee is still learning the best route to a ball. His bad marks come from his lack of range. But he's fast and covers a lot of ground so I expect him to improve and increase his putouts. He's still learning the American game. I expect him to be a lot better with a little more seasoning.

Ramos is a real conundrum. Yeah, I think he has a minor injury. Also, his base running is a "work-in progress." I really want to like Heliot but he sometimes looks lost. Big league ball is a big adjustment! I hope he will be our starting LF next year. All those mistakes are in the past and he can learn from them and mature into a more complete player.

After the homestand that finishes out the month, the Giants only play 4 teams the rest of the season; LA, St. Louis, Arizona, and Colorado. We play each twice. Meanwhile, the Padres and LA don't play again.
