The Giants are calling up Bryce Eldridge and Jesús Rodriguez, their 24-year old C/3B prospect. He came to us from the Yankees in the Camilo Doval trade. Both are on the 40-man roster already. That means two guys on the current 26-man will get optioned or cut loose.
Hmm, who will that be? Patrick Bailey has all three of his options. So do Christian Koss and Drew Gilbert. Willl Brennan has two left. Casey Schmitt has one option remaining. He's hitting so he stays. Koss gets the least work of everyone, so he probably gets sent down. (Jung Hoo Lee has all his options left but I think his spot is secure.)
Eric Haase and Daniel Susac (on the IL) are out of options. I think Susac will keep his job when he gets healthy. Haase will likely be DFAd.
Go Giants!

Before I saw the news of the call-up, I had decided, contrary to my pessimistic nature, to take a faith-based view. That is, that I chose to believe that Devers, Adames and company WILL hit better, the Giants WILL score more than 4 runs in 5 out of 6 games, and that the Giants WILL reel off a win streak and pull themselves together. There is really no baseball reason to think that a hitter as good as Devers, or Adames, or some other the other strugglers have suddenly become unable to play the game, current evidence notwithstanding. I couldn't take quite the same view with the bullpen, I really think it is unfinished, and will take more than just a few breaks to be reliable. The starting pitching, on the other hand, has given the Giants a chance to win consistently. But I am not hopeful that the call-ups will help. I read that Eldridge strikes out a lot (which sounds familiar). But even more, it seems like management is pushing the panic button. And if they don't have faith in the players, then why should the fans? I guess you can't argue too much with General Grant, nor do I have any ideas to spark the team, but I don't see a Lou Gehrig situation happening here. I guess we'll see.
I agree, Devers is not Wally Pipp. He and Adames will hit, unless of course they are hiding a physical issue.
It's a good time to bring the prospects up. The lineup needs an infusion of youthful energy. Somebody has to be the new Susac, maybe J-Rod can be that guy. Somebody needs to bop a few homers in a PH-DH-occasional 1B-role, maybe BryceE can be that guy. They'll still have options remaining. I could see the catcher going down when Susac returns, for example.
The team is stinking. Other teams have fired their managers at this point! I don't see panic, really. Seems like the obvious move. It might not move the needle but at least fans can feel that management is noticing and making adjustments and/or improvements.
Will Brennan was optioned to Sacramento. Erik Miller was put on the IL. Jerar Encarnation was DFA'ed.
