Deja' Screwed Tim

Again?  Really?  Isn't there a chance that was a replay?  I swear I saw that game before.

Clayton Kershaw outdueled Tim Lincecum ONCE AGAIN and trashed our lovely winning streak with his 20th victory, 2-1.  That was the frigging FIFTH time he has beaten us ths year, four times against Tim.  Get's old.

Tell you what else has gotten real old: giving Timmeh no support. That was the 20th time in 32 starts that he has received 2 or fewer runs! Eleven of his thirteen losses have come from getting one or less runs of support.  Lincecum clearly wins the "Cained" Award this year.  Only one poor bastard (Doug Fister) has gotten less run support in all of baseball.

Snakes lost, but Atlanta and St. Louis won.  Our chances are also getting old. And very tired.

From ExtraBaggs:

All the numbers are in the game story, including the stat of the night: Kershaw became the first Dodgers pitcher to beat the Giants five times in a season since Vic Lombardi in 1946.

Not Koufax. Not Drysdale. Not Fernando. Not Hershiser. Not Nomo.

. . .

KERSHAW VS. LINCECUM
March 31 @ LA (opening day): Dodgers 2, Giants 1
July 20 @ SF: Dodgers 1, Giants 0
Sept. 9 @SF: Dodgers 2, Giants 1
Sept. 20 @LA: Dodgers 2, Giants 1

Crazy! Crazy, crazy, crazy. No other explanation except for the fact that Giants hitters really stink. I mean, they've been on a nice run, but they still stink. Lincecum had a bit of charmed life those first few years, it seemed they always scored for him even when he didn't need it. This year everyone gets the Cain treatment. To have all those great starts and see all those .500 records is really agonizing. Let's hope it is better next year.

Only 3 Giants got hits but they got 2 each, and they're all new Giants- Beltran, Christian and Stewart.

As much as it pains me to say it, Kershaw is also a legitimately good pitcher. NL leader in wins with 20 (for a fairly offense-challenged team, although not as offense-challenged as us!), NL leader in strikeouts with 242, NL leader in ERA with 2.29 and a WHIP of 0.99 (just behind Hamels' 0.98). It is a bit of a mystery why batters swing at those pitches that bounce in the dirt. They must look a lot more like strikes from the batter's box than they do from the center field camera.

Yeah, he's a legit Cy choice. Halladay, Lee, Kershaw--kind of like when Tim won over Wainwright and Carpenter. Three close ones. Going 5-0 vs the Giants was a huge help to Kershaw--he leads in Ks and ERA! Our guys are right on the edge. Not quite in the mix like Tim was before. 2012 will be different. Bumgarner will be Kershaw's age next year. We have yet to see him at his best. Cain, too. I feel like he was even better this year, that he is still mastering his game. And be wary of Tim Lincecum. A guy like him--The Freak--with a little more motivation to climb back to the top of the pile, I think it means a new intensity. He does not like being second-best.

It's time to focus on getting The Franchise some franchise dollars and years so he'll stick around. Lock this guy up. The Giants may desperately need offense, but they are nothing with out Tim and Matt and MadBum, so let's keep them around. Tim is a free agent in 2014. Matt's there in 2013. They'll have to get an extension in place soon. That's more important than any big-ticket guys that are out there. I won't bitch if the Giants buy some guys who can hit, that'd be great, but not at the expense of the pitching.

With Panda and Posey both healthy and playing next season (the gods willing), the offense will already be improved. Some youth, some judicious work, it could get done without having to chase Reyes or Beltran. I have no problem with FAs chasing money--that's how it works. And I'd love to have either of them. But I don't think the Giants need to go that route, and I don't think they are suddenly going to throw "Carl Crawford Money" around, either.
