I have a Yoga Student who is friends with one of the Pitching Coaches in the NY Mets Organization. Apparently, his Friend is the guy who watched Brian Wilson work out for them. As has been reported in the media, his Friend (& the Mets) were very unimpressed. Velocity appears to be the big issue.
I, like Lefty Malo, believe that, despite their protestations otherwise, the Giants will find it irresistible to sign Wilson to a small, incentive-rich deal, so that they can continue to market him as he proceeds with what is looking like a very long injury rehab. He may not pitch in 2013, but they'll be able to sell lots of action figures, T-shirts, etc..
I'm OK with that - everyone wins, including those 8-year old Kids with their action figures!

I'm OK with it, too. I would think that, with the right price, the upsides far outweigh the downsides. The question is whether Brian Wilson is OK with it. If he really feels all dissed like he was supposed to have been feeling, maybe he has shut the door on that option. Whether that's true or not, I think that won't be an attractive (read: only available) option to him until the other ones have been exhausted. Consequently, I would expect it to be a last minute signing or maybe a signing only after the season is under way.
I think, like I said before, that Wilson will be a Giant. The Giants want to keep him, and they gambled that no other club would offer him a guaranteed ML deal. Looks like that will pay off. Double Tommy John is undiscovered country--no one has any idea how guys do after that. Can't blame Wilson for seeking a better deal, he thinks he can still pitch, and he probably still can. It's a matter of rehab time, and Wilson has shown he can commit to a long and arduous program. I hope he bites the bullet and takes a less-than-desirable offer from the Giants. It would be great to see him back on the field in orange and black. He could be a huge boost, say, mid-season, when arms are tired and bullpens need help.
I guess Wilson and his agent had to see what his actual value would be. Now that they know it is not much, if he comes down to reality he needs to sign with the giants. He should have taken their first generous offer. Wilson probably will not be ready until after the allstar break.
You've got to hand it to those Giants! We now have all 3 players involved in last year's deal: Angel Pagan, Andres Torres, & Ramon Ramirez.
