Giants Sweep Snakes!

SF 9 AZ 6
It took 16 hits, nine runs, and seven pitchers but the San Francisco Giants completed their three-game sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The pitching staff was stingy in June, allowing only 84 runs in 28 games (exactly 3 rpg), but inaugurate July with a six-run stinker. Derek Holland could not get out of the 4th, Pierce Johnson lost it in the 7th after two perfect innings, and Mark Melancon allowed a run in the 9th and had to be bailed out by Will Smith. But the rest of the group got it done and the lineup was not to be denied, scoring in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 9th frames.

This is a huge win for the club, especially given their poor play on the road before this. The Giants looked good this weekend. I have to give a nod to Brandon Belt for two hits and three walks, not to mention superb glove work, as always. Brandon Crawford had two hits, an RBI, and a run scored. The B-Boys have carried the offense, don't you think?

Colorado next. 5:40 Pacific, Madison Bumgarner. Go Giants!

Things have been going great. Maybe the team is inspired by Madbum's return to excellence, plus some clutch hits from Pence. I know I am. Rodriguez and Suarez are pitching great. I'd rather see them stay in the rotation than see Smarja. I don't care that he played football at Notre Dame. He's a mediocre pitcher.

Yeah this is the best the team has played in a long time! Can't believe we aren't more excited. Must be all that thrilling World Cup action.

Now, if they can put up a good showing in Colorado........ All the youngsters have pitched well, with ample assists from a pen that is light years ahead of last year's. A road sweep against the divisional leaders - that's got to feel good, and good enough to shake off the "can't win on the road" bugaboo.

We got through the June Swoon without a swoon. That, in an of itself, is reason for celebration. After the terrible disappointment of the past few seasons, I have found myself waiting for the bottom to drop out. And it hasn't happened. So now I am getting ready to start believing we can have another incredible season. Why not?

Yup. More like a June Boon. I really like how Gorkys Hernandez has emerged as the CF. Giants needed that spot filled and he's stepped up. Cutch is doing the job in RF. Still questions about the rest of the OFs, maybe Austin Slater can help. With Cueto coming back I have to think the team will continue to improve.
