SF 7 AZ 4
The Giants relief corps threw five scoreless innings last night, allowing only two hits and two walks while striking out five. Trevor Gott, Mark Melancon, Sam Dyson, Tony Watson, and Will Smith (who is 20-for-20 in save chances) each recorded three outs after Tyler Beede went the first four frames and gave up four runs (three in the 1st). FNG Alex Dickerson had two doubles and three RBI--that's nine in two games, a Giants record. Kevin Pillar and Brandon Crawford had two hits each and Mike Yastrzemski drove in two with his fifth homer. Yaz has raised his average 50 points in the last 10 games.
Shaun Anderson gets the ball this afternoon at 1:10 Pacific and the Giants go for the sweep. Yep, you heard that right. The rookie has shown some grit in his seven starts and has kept the team in the game. Let's hope the lineup keeps putting runs on the board.

So the Giants were 3 - 4 on the road, could have been 4 - 3. I'm counting the 9 - 8 game against LA, yesterday's 10th inning loss could really have been a 9 inning loss except for the bounce-back to Vogt on the wild pitch. That follows their 2 of 3 victories against Milwaukee at home, so 5 - 5 since their last day off, with 2 wins against San Diego just before that. I am not normally one to be the bearer of positive news, but that's an improvement!
Perhaps I spoke to soon. We face our nemesis, the Crockies. Last night's game was no fun. You know what would have made it more fun? Leaving Pomeranz in. I know after 5 he had thrown 97 pitches, the Giants had a runner on 2nd and 1 out. Still, 11 K in 5 innings! That ties a Giant record that for 5 innings that has stood since 1893! (at least, that's what I think the announcers were saying). The record for the NL is 20, but he had reached in career best at 11. Leave him in! It's not like the Giants are playing for anything except those anomalous items here and there like Bochy's 1000th win.
