Alex Cobb pitched into the 6th inning and allowed only three hits and one run. The bullpen followed that with a scoreless 3-2/3 and the Giants won their fifth straight. The hitters rapped out ten and added five walks not to mention two Rockies errors, and the highlight was a Brandon Crawford two-run blast in the 5th. It's nice to see the team bounce back from that losing streak. They travel to St. Louis and play on Friday at 5:15 Pacific.
Go Giants!

Run came in on what should have been an error by Alvarez moving Cobb's ERA from 3.54 to 3.98. All the other teams in the N.L. west lost
Giants trade 22-year RHP Prelander Berroa (currently at High-A Eugene) for soon-to-be 28-year old Seattle LH infielder Donovan Walton. He's only had 102 PA in the bigs over four seasons but has a solid AAA track record. He mostly plays 2B and SS but has seen time at 3B and even in the OF.
Jake McGee goes on the IL. Giants sign a lefty reliever to a minors deal. Scott Alexander came up with the Royals and was traded to the Dodgers a few years back and they cut him loose last year. You never have enough lefty relievers and with McGee unavailable that makes a guy like Alexander worth a shot.
The previous trade is more of a head-scratcher. Makes me wonder if La Stella is behind schedule.
Maybe the Donovan Walton trade will work out, but I thought Prelander Berroa was a legit prospect. Giants making a ton of little moves. Surprised after all this time that they finally gave up on Beede.
Giants trade Mauricio Dubon to the Astros for a switch-hitting C/1B Michael Papierski.
Did not see that coming! I liked Dubon, everyone did, but the Giants were obviously ready to move on. Let's hope we get a decent player in Papierski.
I hope this does not turn into a Matt Duffy situation. I have been one that really like Dubon and I find the move perplexing. Dubon can field well at multiple positions and he is really not a bad hitter. I hated when they traded Duffy and am going to need a few days to calm doen about this one.
The roster crunch crunched. 28-man roster goes to 26-man.
I think the emergence of Thairo Estrada pushed Dubon down on the depth chart since both are RH hitters. And with Slater and Yaz healthy there is less need for his glove in CF. Donovan Walton is a lefty hitter so he complements Estrada and backs up La Stella. Papierski is catching depth at AAA and probably a taxi squad guy as well. He'll come up if Casali or Bart gets hurt. Supposedly they really like Papierski and have been interested in getting him for some time.
One way to look at it is that the Giants have a good player at every spot. If they get rid of someone it is going to hurt. That just shows they've built a strong talent base.
Giants and Mariners made another trade. This time Alex Blandino goes and we get Stuart Fairchild. He's a RHH who plays all three OF positions.
Andrew Baggarly tweeted:
At this point the Giants and Mariners should move their Triple-A teams to a shared facility in Yreka, or something.
Hey, great idea!
