The Giants had a five-run 2nd inning and a eight-run 8th inning yesterday. Rookie catcher Patrick Bailey turned 24 and hit a two-run double in the 2nd and a 2-run homer in the 8th. It was a crazy game. Anthony DeSclafani threw three pitches in the 1st inning to get three outs: a double, a fly out, and a line out into a double play. He made it through seven innings on only 74 pitches giving up eight hits and three runs with no walks and two strikeouts. It was one of those "here, hit this" kind of outings: only four swing-and-miss strikes! There were ten ground ball outs and seven fly ball outs. Austin Slater was back from the IL and had three hits and four RBI. Brett "Maverick" Wisely pitched the 9th. He gave up a splash hit to CF Jack Suwinski who hit one earlier off DeSclafani. Only Barry Bonds ever put two in the water in one game.
It's a bullpen game tonight (6:45) with John Brebbia listed as the opener.
Go Giants!

p.s. It is the third seasonal inning (54 games). In this latest 18-game stretch they went 12-6 to bring their overall record to 28-26, good for third place in the NL West, 4-1/2 back of the Dodgers and three behind the Diamondbacks. The Giants are tied with the Marlins, Twins, Mariners, and Blue Jays for the 13th-best record in MLB.

Suwinski hit 3 homers in one game vs. the giants last year to win the game for the Pirates. Not withstanding the homer off of Wisely, he seems to just crush the high inside, in the strike zone pitch. I would stay away from pitching him there. Most lefties are vulnerable to that pitch, he clearly is not. DeSlafani finally had a bit of luck. He once again threw some very hittable pitches in the first inning, a few of them hit well over 100 mph. Luckily for him Suwinksi did not come to bat in the first. Not sure why, but Anthony D's pre-game warm up is not getting him completely ready for the first inning, and other teams are catching on. With the giants hitting, the agressive approach by the Pirates did not work out this time. Hoping that it was just a day of rest for Conforto. Definitely miss Thairo out there. I hope the giants can continue to keep the engine churning. Sending down Beck is interesting. If things do not work out soon for Manaoa or Stripling, Beck may earn is way to becoming the 5th starter, at least until Harrison is ready. Harrison so far has still not gone or been allowed to go deep into games. If he can throw strikes, he can be a 3 inning shut down type of guy for now.
Beck has all of his options. He'll be on the yo-yo this season. I'm glad he had some success last few times out. I suspect the other rookie Ryan Walker is next because Luke Jackson is coming off the IL. He had TJS last April. Giants gave him a two-year deal for this year ($3M) and next ($6.5M) with an option for 2025 so they have high hopes for him.
I agree and I think they will use Harrison in such a "bulk" role and bring him up sooner rather than later. He can get his seasoning in the majors. Anyway, that's my hope!
