Logan Webb retired the first eight hitters he saw tonight on ground balls. He added seven more over the course of eight scoreless frames in a dominant performance. Mets starter Luis Severino matched Webb with four perfect innings but gave up four singles in the 5th for a 3-0 Giants lead. They added two more in the 7th with a couple of extra-base hits. Tyler Rogers had an ugly 9th, giving up three hits and spoiling the shutout, but Camilo Doval bailed him out and saved the win.
Webb followed up rookie Keaton Winn's strong start with an even better one. Not only that, the lineup gave them each five runs to work with. That's a good combination! We'll see if Blake Snell can keep it going. He needs to deliver a good performance and a sweep would be sweet. I try not to read too much into a small subset of games but I like what I saw tonight and last night. The Giants potentially have a really good starting rotation. This looks like a pitching-and-defense club with a solid if unspectacular offense, so if they are to succeed in 2024 the starters will have to lead the way.
It's a getaway game tomorrow so a 12:45 PT start. Off-day Thursday and the Pirates come to town Friday.
Go Giants!

Snell apparently goes on the IL with an abductor strain. Roupp, who was sent down just yesterday to make room for Mitch White, was recalled.
The Giants have a new, utterly brainless gimmick, turning all the lights off to introduce Camilo Duval. Unfortunately, they got the timing just a little bit off. Check this out, including Alex Pavlovich's Twitter (X) post.

Saw that about Snell. I was wondering if that was going to happen. I'm not surprised, he has not looked good.
Yeah, they love their lights. The whole world is going crazy for light shows, it seems. I did see the story about the bullpen catcher! Close call. But get used to it, like I said people are nutty about light shows these days.
LEDs are interesting tech. They use tiny amounts of power compared to "regular" lights (fluorescent and incandescent). But we don't gain anything by switching to cheaper, more efficient lighting. Instead we just USE MORE LIGHTS!! Any energy or dollar "savings" evaporates because we just put more lights in more places and use them for more things. It's weird. It's like having a low-flow shower or low-flow toilet: you just take longer showers and flush twice!!
Really upsetting about Snell.
How long do you think it will be before someone gets hurt? Maybe a fan glances up when the lights go out who is on the stairs in the upper deck. It's a really brainless idea when you have 30,000 + people in one place to intentionally take away their vision in an instant.
I was just waxing philosophically about how interesting and exciting our starting rotation was shaping up to be.
That's the thing with Snell: you get a lot of volatility. The top end is elite, best in the game, but the rest is . . .
The lineup needs to score some more runs. We are going to see a lot more of those young arms.
Yes. Fortunately, the youngsters have done what they needed to. We might see Mason Black soon.
