Back-to-back walk-offs

SF 5  ATL 4 (10)

SF 3  ATL 2

The Giants went to extras on Friday night and won when Braves reliever Pierce Johnson uncorked a wild pitch and Tyler Fitzgerald scooted home. The Giants won this afternoon when Pierce Johnson uncorked a gopher ball to Matt Chapman who parked it over the fence with Heliot Ramos aboard.

On Friday, Hayden Birdsong ran out of gas after being staked to 3-0 lead in the 1st. Ryan Walker gave up the tying runs in the 7th but the rest of the bullpen held firm. The Braves, it seems, are even worse than the Giants at scoring an automatic runner.

Today Logan Webb was great (6 IP, 2 R, 10 K) but Braves starter Bryce Elder was just a bit better (8 IP, 1 R, 12 K). Fortunately for the home fans the team rallied in the 9th off Johnson. Ramos singled with one out and after two were out Chapman homered on a 1-1 pitch. The bullpen of course delivered three scoreless.

With four wins in a row and consecutive losses for the Dodgers (38-27) the Giants (37-28) are now one game back with the Padres (36-26) sandwiched a half-game in between.

Tomorrow afternoon's game starts at 1:05 Pacific with Landen Roupp on the hill.

Go Giants!

Looks as if Webb is doomed to be a 500 pitcher. I had a bet with my son, that as soon as the giants would get ahead in the score, Webb would immediately give it right back. I won that bet. He blames me for jinxing it. But I was also really helping they would get Webb off the hook. It seems that the raising Matt Cain site, almost should share the name Webb, as Webb as taken over Cain's run support. Several giants hitters still seem to have no clue of the strike zone. Even though Adames has 30 walks, he could have 50. He swings at pitches in the dirt, and a foot off the plate and takes pitches right down the middle. A similar affliction seems to have taken hold with Fitzgerald, and Bailey. But Fitz, still finds ways to get hits. I thought the Pads were going to come back in their game, but after Arriez hit a two out two run double in ninth to tie up the game. Manny, unlike when he batted against the Giants failed to drive him in. Then the Brewers had their own walk off magic. Putting the giants and the Pads each just one game behind the bums. The bums have both Snell and Glasnow on the I.L. but they make up for it by being able to score a lot of runs. They have had to have their bullpen toss a lot of innings and have gone for some reinforcements.

Since he's been a full-time starter Webb has always finished with double-digit wins (11, 15, 11, 13). But yeah, he certainly gets the Cain treatment!

I don't know what to say about Adames. He really seems lost. Bailey had less than 200 G in the minors. He's a little bit behind in his development. Fitzy is okay, just raw, I think he'll improve by the end of the year. I like his attitude and aggressiveness.

On the flip side is Ramos who looks more confident and accomplished every day. Lee looks like the strong all-round player we were hoping for.
