Last night's 3-1 loss to the Pirates was the 108th game of the year and brought the Giants to a 54-54 record. That's six seasonal innings or two-thirds of the season. As you can see it is the worst stretch of baseball for 2025 and certainly complicates things here at the end of the month and the Trade Deadline.
The Giants had one more contest with the Pirates this afternoon. Logan Webb whiffed eleven but also walked four and hit a batter. He left in the 6th after 109 pitches and the game tied 1-1. It went to extras and Ryan Walker made a bonehead play in the top of the 10th that let the Manfred Man score the go-ahead run. In the bottom half, the Giants got an extra runner via an error and both were bunted over. But Patrick Bailey and then Heliot Ramos whiffed to end it.
So they start their final third of the season with a 2-1 loss in ten innings. That's a clean sweep! This is the first time the team has been under .500 in 2025. It's an off-day tomorrow, thank goodness. They end the month of July with a 9-15 record.
On Friday (the 1st of August) they open a three-game set in NYC against the Mets and then go to Pittsburgh after that for another three-game set. Let's hope they do better than 0-for-6.

Giants pivot to "sell" mode: they trade Tyler Rogers to the Mets for three guys. One is a RH pitcher, Jose Butto, and the other two are prospects.
I love Tyler Rogers. I love seeing guys who are unique and do something unorthodox and yet thrive in MLB. Rogers, in seven seasons with SF, had led the league in appearances three times. He is one of the most reliable and dependable pitchers out there.
Rogers was a 10th round pick and has been in the system since 2013. He took a long time to make the majors (2019) but he's been a stud since then (2.79 ERA, 3.31 FIP, 9 WAR in almost 400 IP).
From FanGraphs:
Getting Gilbert, Tidwell, and Buttó for Rogers — a 34-year-old reliever who is a free agent-to-be, it bears repeating — is still a fine pickup for the Giants. All three either can be useful major leaguers, or already are. But the likelihood is that there is not a good starting pitcher, or a high-leverage reliever, or an above-average starting position player, in this package, even if the name value says otherwise.
I hate the trade deadline. I hate it that teams I hate, like the Mets, get better, and I hate it that teams with suffering fan bases make their fans suffer more by giving away their few bright spots. I especially hate it that the Giants have picked now to do a face plant on the season.
With Aaron Judge on the IL, the Yankees made a trade..... for Austin Slater.
Yeah, I saw that! Good for him. I have a soft spot for those guys that are just good enough to hang around. Slater is in his 9th season. Gabe Kapler figured out how to get the most out of Slater's particular skills. He bounced around after that. But he's still a solid player (good glove, good baserunner) and hits well against lefties.
I'm really sad about Tyler Rogers. I hate when we lose our own guys, the ones who came up in the system. But I don't blame Buster for moving him. He got a decent haul. They weren't likely to re-sign him after this year, anyway. And the team has played itself into this position.
Maybe Rogers will get to pitch in some big moments in the playoffs and everyone will get to see his goofy style. I think we should have more guys like that. Weird. Guys who don't throw 99 mph. Guys who aren't built like linebackers.
Looks like a Camilo Doval trade is in the works. Yankees. Stay tuned.
Supposedly Yaz to KC. That's not surprising, he's a FA at the end of the year. But it hurts, man. I love me some Yaz!
But I get it, I mean the business side. Buster is one Wild West gunslinger, baby!
There's a thunderstorm. I'm going to shut down until it is over. Then I'll post about the moves.
Now with all thee trades, I wonder if Adames wishes he stayed with Milwukee, and Devers wishes that he was not traded. Posey promised Adames that the giants would compete this year. Not sure the give up after a 2 and 12 run, team could totally reverse that. I guess I still remember 1951 when the Ian's were in much worse shape at this time. I understand trading rigers, but not so much rogers and doval. I also get trading yaz, but he is only one of 2 giants non pitchers to be above 2 0 WAR. This team losing 2 pillars of the bullpen cannot be great. Maybe we are looking g at 2028, but some of us are old enough and we prefer not to wait. They better play Matos and he better get hot on offense.
