4.1 7 5 4 5 5

Does it seem like our guys aren't ready to pitch when they go out there? Like they need to face a couple of batters before they "find" their stuff and hit their spots? Da Beezy spent all of last season doing that, please don't tell me that Matt Cain is adopting our Billion Dollar Boondoggle's bad habits!!! 25 batters and 96 pitches in 4-and-a-third? That's some Spring Training garbage, that's what THAT is. (Exactly what does DAVE RIGHETTI, Pitching "Coach" do, anyway? Help guys get ready to pitch?) At least the homer M.C. gave up was to a studly hitter--Adrian Gonzalez--and he got hits all day long. I suppose that is SOME consolation, although it looked like Gonzalez raked a pretty fat pitch in the 1st (I saw the replay). I'm glad my hideous work duty kept me from watching (or following on Gameday) today. This was one worth missing. C'mon, Matt, we need to see an "Ace" effort next time! Dammit, there ain't much else worth watching with this crew.

Imagine how freked out everyone will be if Timmy can't get the job done tonight. When our studs (both of them) suck we take it to a whole new level of BAD.

I see they figured out to use Wilson...one save chance a week is not alot of work. Of course, he got smacked.

Freked? Kind of cool, but I meant freaked.

Early-season stats can be fun. The other day Hennessey lowered his ERA by approx 14 by giving up ONLY one run in his appearance.
I feel compelled to continue to look for silver linings, since the awfulness is so overwhelming. Here's today's contribution:
The "heart" of the lineup, Molina and Rowand, are showing signs of adequacy. (At this point adequacy is all we get.) Velez is exciting- he got his second triple and would have 3 already but for the damn "ground rule."
I've been quietly grumbling anti-Rags thoughts for a long time now. Can you name any Giants pitcher who's even lived up to his potential in the last 10 years? And it's inexcusable how many games are lost in the first inning.

Mr. Nymous makes a good point. Why are Giants pitchers so consistently ready to take the mound? As a contrast, I point out the 1990 Braves. I believe that a large part of the reason that Bobby Cox is a "genius" is because Smoltz, Maddux and Glavine (and Neagle) were studs AND because of Leo Mazzone. They were ready to pitch every time they walked onto the field and seemed like they went about a decade between hangnails. Why can't the Giants prepare like that?

Shut out through the first. A couple base runners, but better than nothing. (Fervently hoping I didn't just jinx things)

C'mon Timmy!

I won't blame you, CJ for the jinx and blown save! Tim was awesome, we won in extras, it's all good. Thanks for dropping by RMC!

Cain was affected by two big factors: opening day nerves and that was compounded by the umpire's small squeezed strike zone. Give him a break. Don't freak out over one start.

Yeah, I know MC will be all right. I was too emotionally invested in the Opener as well! Now that the rest of the bhoyos have stepped it up I expect the Hurra-Cain will start blowin' 'em away.
