Complete Games = 1

Goooooood thing MOC was out of the way.......Matt threw his first complete game of the year, matched up against a tough Tim Redding who matched Matt throughout the game. Almost. Matt's line: 9 ip, 4 hits, 0 runs, 4 K's and 0 BB. Tim Redding: 8 ip, 7 well dispersed hits, 1 run (earned), 5 K's and 0 BB. For those of us who love pitcher's battles, and could stomach this: Dave Roberts - gwrbi, it was a wonderful day to be out at the ballpark which makes me ask the question, why wasn't I? Oh, right, work....whatever. Matt has obviously learned his lesson well, if he wants a W, he has to do it himself. All in all, brilliant performance by both pitchers as we manage to prove that, even though we are not as good as the Brewers, we are better than the Nationals.

Way to go, Zo! Thanks for picking up the ball. I have a busy afternoon, but maybe I'll get back and post as well. (If my Bro would check his normal email and reply we can get him up and posting as well.)
Matt was`a GOD!! Double WOOHOO!
May your figs always be sweet!
That sounds naughty.
On Barry Bonds's birthday, the Giants left fielder had a good day at the plate and in the outfield to win the game and help Cain achieve the first complete game of the year.
Of course, the left fielder was Dave Roberts and not Bonds.
Don't you love irony?
If Zo can do it, so can I. I went to my e-mail as instructed and I am now washed in the blood of full-blown bloggerism, and not just a semi-anonymous heckler. But I'll wait my turn so as not to rain on the mystic one's parade.
Triple WOOHOO!! Bro Bob is on board! I look forward to your virginal post. By "my turn" I assume you mean after Sanchez, which sounds perfect. Go for it!
Hey, Zo and Bob remember I am traveling to Sac/SF during first week in Aug. I want to go to tues night(8/5)and wed day (8/6)vs the Braves. Maybe spend the night Tues at Zo's??? We will talk soon to work out details. PUT THOSE DATES IN YOUR CALENDAR.
Last night...Cain won a 1-0 game and doing it all himself. Giant naysayers it was only “the Nationals.” Is it true, I think, that this is the first complete game since Noah Lowry in 2006?
To bad it did not carry over to tonights game with the Jonathan Sanchez’s meltdown in 2 2/3 innings. This proves that the Giants need a long relief pitcher. Every great pitcher implodes at some point. They have to have confidence that the pen can pick them up on days they do not have there best stuff. This has been an issue for the Giants primarily due to the pen being over taxed (last night an exception). To compound the problem the developing position players have lacked consistency with the bat.
Giants used five of our twelve pitchers, tonight, just to get through the game. Take out the other starting four (Matt Cain, Tim Lincecum, Barry Zito, and Kevin Correia) Giants used all but three pitcher.
Please do not get me wrong, I like the fact the Giants are bringing up young talent to see how they perform at the next level, but but the pen needs some relief.
You are undeniably right that the Giants need relief pitching. Middle and long relief is really a huge key to a contender. However, since this team has SO MANY major holes it seems unlikely that getting someone for that job is unlikely. Also, I think this is where our depth of young pitchers will really pay off. Once Valdez returns to a prominent bullpen role that will make the bullpen look much stronger. BUT we must avoid filling holes with people like Yabu, replacement level with NO FUTURE. That is an example where trying to win now hurts the team's future (besides the fact that the old farts DON"T help us win any better than the yutes!)
Thanks again for checking in!
Wow, I slipped a weird double negative/typo in there...you know what I meant.
