For anyone that is not already familiar with last night's debacle, it was a fine pitching performance from both sides that degenerated into a bad, slapstick version of the Comedy of Errors meets Bad News Bears. Sandoval had countless errors in the 8th, plus Crawford choked, plus Madison fell apart. The Brewers defense looked better than us even when they were batting. I can't post this morning for some reason in the blog itself. Even the Chron no longer puts the Giants on the front sports page. Instead it is about Brian Wilson's minor league start. Whatever. Fuck it.
That was just crap baseball in the 8th. There have been way too many displays of lousy defense all year from this team. I've pretty much stopped watching. I flip to the Giants games during the commercials of whatever stupid old rerun I'm watching.
I turned it off after MadBum's errant throw to third base in the 8th that let in the go-ahead run.Wow. Who knew it could get so bad, so quickly? From world champs to laughingstock in mere months. Why are the baseball gods testing us so cruelly?
Looks like blogger is OK. I could see your post and edit it. If you click the "design" tab in the upper right hand corner (when you are signed in that should appear next to "new post" just above the title banner). On the "design" page you will see a list on the upper left sidebar: "new post" in an orange box and below that "overview", "posts", "pages", "comments", etc., next to little icons. Click on "posts" and it will get you a list of ALL posts and drafts which you can then edit. You had a couple of drafts on the list that I deleted. Maybe blogger wasn't letting you create another post until you deleted the drafts. I don't know. It's a clunky piece of software and every once in a while goofy shit happens.
It could well be my capabilities at work - we apparently have an adminstrative policy of not updating basic software like Internet Explorer, which kind of sucks anyway.I have been wondering about the baseball gods thing myself. Have we committed some heinous act of hubris bad enough to have the gods let the doggers buy their way into the playoffs? Are we merely being tested in Job-like fashion? Do the gods love marijuana and are dismayed at seeing so much of it destroyed during the 2012 victory parade? Do they just hate great pitching? I don't know. We had some crappy starts, now we are getting great starts and we are doing no better than before.
Sandoval is not good at baseball. He's looking like another Johnny Sanchez to me. Big decisions looming.
Did you guys see this story about former Giants prospect Tommy Joseph?Catching is brutal. Maybe the Giants should think about Posey moving to 1B sooner rather than later. This would also make the Belt-haters happy. Belt is 25, just on the edge of what are peak years for most players (up to year 30), and is arb-eligible in 2015, FA 2018. This year he's making $0.5M. Keep? Trade? (I'd like to see him get another shot in 2014, I think he will improve. We've been spoiled with guys like Cain, MadBum, Posey, and Lincecum who were stars or near-stars immediately. Most guys have to mature and learn the craft. Remember Matt Williams?)Sandoval is a FA in 2015, gets $8.25M next year. Keep? Trade? (I think a contract year will show us a renewed, high-performing Panda.)Gaudin is a FA. Keep? (I think they need to make a reasonable effort to sign him--short, incentive-laden deal.)For the rest of the year I want to see MORE of Surkamp and Kickham and Kieschnick and other rooks. I want to see more rest days and fewer innings for Cain, MadBum, Posey. 2013 is lost. 2014 is the new focus.I'll put some posts up over the next few weeks inviting discussion on THE PLAN for the Giants going forward. Nobody wants to write about this clown brigade we are watching now. Although, I must say, writing about failure and anguish and frustration can be immensely rewarding as it is transformational. You learn about yourself, your outlook on the world evolves, and your skills as a writer improve by leaps and bounds.
Not to mention, you get to use swear words alot!
Time to put Zito on the 60 day DL. Nice game by Lincecum today. Has anyone noticed that throughout the series, Brewer's pitchers were selectively getting the low strike called. And plenty of extra corner compared to the superior giants pitchers. Maybe the umps owed something to the commissioner in reference to his former team. A team which should be in the A.L. instead of Houston.
