Last night's 5-0 loss to the Dodgers was game 144. That's eight seasonal-innings of baseball by the Giants. They are 69-75 (.479) overall. Here's the way that looks:
There are 18 games left in the season. Only two more against LA, thank goodness. The Giants are 4-13 against the Dodgers (and 5-11 against the Padres). After this weekend it is off to Colorado and Arizona, then home against both those clubs before finishing in San Diego.
Tonight's game is at 6:05 PT.
Go Giants!

p.s. There is some organizational good news in that the Eugene Emeralds won the Northwest League (High-A West) championship for the third time in five years. This is their second season as a Giants affiliate.

Farhan Zaidi took over as PoBO at the end of 2018 and thus the 2019 season was his first in terms of the draft. He brought in Kyle Haines as the new Farm Director and Michael Holmes as the new Scouting Director.
Hunter Bishop, Logan Wyatt, and Grant McCray were the team's first three picks. Caleb Killian was taken in the 8th round--he was traded for Kris Bryant and made his debut this year with the Cubs.
The first member of that 2019 Giants draft to make the big club is Cole Waites (18th round, 536th pick). He was the closer at Eugene before his meteoric rise to AA, AAA, and the majors this season.
He pitched last night, his second appearance. He gave up a two-out RBI hit to Freddie Freeman but got three outs in the top of the 9th. His first career strikeout victim was Mookie Betts.
IF Carter Aldrete (son of Rich Aldrete and nephew of Mike) was a 15th-round pick in that same draft. Armani Smith (OF) and Garrett Frechette (1B) are also a couple of names to keep an eye on.
Vaun Brown leads all minor league players (minimum 250 plate appearances) in both batting average (.346) and wRC+ (175). A 10th-round pick last year by the San Francisco Giants out of Florida Southern College, the 24-year-old outfielder had 23 home runs in 458 PAs between Low-A San Jose and High-A Eugene.
I saw this nugget on FanGraphs. At least there's good news at the lower levels!
Or old friend Dereck Rodriguez was DFAd by the Twins. I did not realize he was still in baseball! His minors numbers in the last few seasons have not been very good but he still managed to get a call-up. It shows just how desperate teams are for pitching. I think the reasoning is "if you at one time showed you could get a major league hitter out we think you ought to be able to do it again."
David Price said he will retire at the end of this season. He was a the #1 pick overall in 2007. The Giants drafted MadBum at #10. Price made the majors in 2008 and has logged over 2100 innings in nearly 400 games. He's 37.
MadBum did not go to college like Price and is only 33 as he was signed out of HS. Price maybe had a little more impressive career than Bum (CYA, higher peak WAR) but of course Bum's post-season exploits dwarf those of Price's. Price switched to the bullpen after injuries and a fall-off in performance. Bum is still a starter and still logs a lot of innings but he sports ERA/FIP in the 4.5-5 range these days so it will be interesting to see what happens when his contract is up after 2024.
Both of these great lefties are from the South (Price TN, Bum NC). Both made it to The Show very quickly (Bum in 2009). Both had early success and long careers.
