The Giants picked up a game on the Diamondbacks with a late outburst against the A's. J.D. Davis homered in the 1st to make the home crowd happy. Casey Schmitt doubled in the 2nd to make it 3-0 but Oakland fought back and tied it up against Jakob Junis in the 4th. A pinch-hit two-run homer from Austin Slater in the 6th made it 5-3 and with Alex Wood's three scoreless frames (5th, 6th, and 7th) the Giants were set up nicely. They tacked on three more in the 8th and that allowed Luke Jackson to finish up. Marco Luciano made his debut playing shortstop and batting eighth. He handled all his chances cleanly but went 0-for-2.
It's an off-day tomorrow and then three against the Red Sox over the weekend. Friday night's game is at 7:15, Saturday afternoon's is 4:15 (Fox), and Sunday's at 1:05 (all times Pacific).
Go Giants!

Also, a game on the doggers who lost 2 of 3 to the Blue Jays.
Luciano in his first at bat crushed a line drive toright field that was an out due to a jumping catch at the wall. That ball was crushed but was a line drive. Some how Matos, seems to have warning track power so far in the majors. Has hit a few that looked gone as it jumped off the bat only to be caught at the wall. His calm approach at bat, is great to watch, and seems to be more mature than the approach that many veterans have. I was surprised that Luciano was called up, but the kid definitely looks like a player.
I think it's great that the Giants and calling up the youngsters. It's time to see what they can do!!
This is a good team and they are just on the edge of a playoff berth. They may not be able to challenge for the NL West lead but they can certainly be 2nd place/wild card. About the only thing I would like to see them do at the deadline is get some more starting pitching.
I think that a need for starting pitching was the dominant narrative a while ago, but then my thinking changed to maybe they don't really need very much at all, and then I think their recent losing streak suggests that starting pitching would indeed be a good thing. Wood can be good but is not consistent. Cobb and Webb were consistently good until all of a sudden, they weren't. And that revealed how stretched even a very good relief corps could be. I'm not sure where you go for starting pitching without giving up the farm. I think 28 of 30 teams are supposedly looking for starting pitching.
The team is still 4th best in ERA in the N.L. and the top 4 teams are close in ERA. The giants made a bunch of errors this year hurting their pitchers. But the losing streak was also mostly on the hitters. The giants in the last two weeks have move toward the bottom of the league in hitting stats. They need to start hitting again. I do not like their approach. They are constantly swinging for the fences, and they strike out way too much. Lately they seem to have the virus of swinging at ball 4 when the pitch is basically in the dirt.
