Once again the RISP bug bit: 0-for-9 in those spots with eight men left on base. That's with only five hits (and five bases on balls) in eleven innings. It's amazing that either team scored at all as the D-backs had a mere five hits as well. Things started promisingly but the lineup could not get the big hit and that let Arizona back into the game. They scored the Manfred Man in both the 10th and the 11th and that was the difference.
It's Alex Cobb and Zac Gallen tomorrow night at 6:45 Pacific.
Go Giants!

p.s. Giants picked up A.J. Pollock for "cash considerations" presumably to be Mike Yastrzemski for the next few weeks. An AAA player (utility infielder) named Mark Mathias was part of the deal, he will require additional cash or a PTBNL (player to be named later).

Another 0 / 9 with RISP. At this point, randomness would dictate they should be hitting better than they seem to be able to. Goddammit. They need to win against this team.
Perhaps their approach to hitting the ball hard and letting the chips fall where they may is not working in these situations. Perhaps meeting the ball and hitting it where they "ain't" instead of trying to crush everything. Amazing how other teams get the rare guy on second base against us, and come through with the run. Something happening too frequently given how few chances the other team gets. Seeing eye 60 mph grounders work better then 107 mph line outs right to the fielder. Crawford had one shot where he almost knocked the cover off the ball for an out. Diaz, hit two foul balls super hard, one was 112 mph. For a good part of the game giants hitters were not striking out at a record pace, but then in the 11th, with a runner in scoring position, and even a guy on third due to a passed ball, the K's started. Put the bat on the ball. Don't have to swing for the fences when playing at that point for a tie, get the bat on the ball. I thought the game might be over when Wade Crushed one, but he hit it high and to the deepest part of the park, for an out. A line drive single would have worked better. I know it is difficult to hit major league pitching, but lately in the clutch, except for a few hits, the giants seem to have an extra degree of difficulty. How good is the approach to hitting our hitting coach philosophy is using? Giants are in the lower half of the league when it comes to hitting. Just hate it when with two strikes one of our guys takes a fastball right down the middle. Was looking for something else. I think that is fine with less than 2 strikes, and no men on base. But with two strikes and a runner on, it may help to be ready for any pitch, and instead of launching it, (in that situation) go to all fields.
