Giants blank Dodgers, go up 2-1

SF 1  LA 0

The Giants pulled off an epic team shutout tonight in LA and edged the Dodgers in a classic pitchers duel. Max Scherzer gave the Giants fits, whiffing ten over seven frames and yielding only three hits and one walk. His one blemish was the big hit--a massive homer in the 5th by Evan Longoria. That was Longo's tenth career post-season bomb, by the way. Alex Wood put up four zeroes and the bullpen did the rest, highlighted by an extraordinary six-out save from Camilo Doval. Dodger Stadium was swirling with wind all game long and it probably cost both teams a homer or two, and the strike zone pissed off both ballclubs, so you had to figure it was a fair contest. It was a tremendous team effort and the Giants take a one-game lead in the LDS. Special shout-out to Brandon Crawford for his continued awesome-ness, especially that grab in the 7th to deny Mookie Betts. The whole team deserves a nod for great fielding.

The Dodgers had won FIFTEEN in a row at home before this game! They have been shut out TWICE in this series by the Giants even though they were shut out only FIVE times all year!

This Giants team is showing, again and again, how tough and resilient they are. After Saturday's ugly loss they played a beautiful game and pulled off a sensational win. If they win one more game they go to the LCS!

Tomorrow night's game is listed at 6:07 Pacific. The starters have not been named but Anthony DeSclafani seems the logical choice.

GO GIANTS!!

BEAT LA!!

I think that Wood has gone out after a loss 15 times and the team’s record is 13 -2 or something like that. He is one cool customer.

I keep waiting for the talking heads on TV to admit that the Giants are the best team, but they have all drunk the Dodgers kool-aid. We watched one pre-game show where they didn’t even mention the Giants except in passing because they never stopped talking about how incredibly terrific the Dodgers are. Scherzer, Scherzer, Scherzer… It was unbelievable. After last night I am hoping for some more respect, but we shall see.
Finally hearing serious talk of Crawford as MVP outside the friendly confines of Oracle. How can anyone think Harper makes more sense? Hitting home runs is fine but it’s not the whole game. Can Harper fly?
One more and then bring on the next guys. I don’t care whether it’s Milwaukee or Atlanta, but I am sure it matters.

What a great win - outlasting Scherzer is the best you can hope for, & we did - just like back in Game 4 of the 2012 World Series, I might add. Duggar had an incredibly difficult time in CF, because of the wind. But, he played some classic adaptive OF.

I'm so tired of reading something like this: 'The strike zone pissed off both ballclubs, so you had to figure it was a fair contest.' Not tired of Mark writing it - just that it keeps happening practically every Game. That guy last night had a real problem - everything several inches inside to a RHB / outside to a LHB was a Strike. On the other side, it was equally 'off'. That is a fixable problem, the robot fix being the most logical. But, review the tape, dude - you have a sightline problem that you can correct.

It was Matt Cain who outlasted Scherzer in 2012!

I like that the Giants get no respect. It makes the victories that much sweeter.

The umps have an impossible job. It's too hard to call a good strike zone every night. You see it enough so you know they can do it, but like hitting a pitched baseball, it's a difficult task. Some umps are better than others, just like some hitters are better than the rest.

The only way out is the technology, it seems. It would be interesting to go to a game where they are using the robo-ump. I think it's supposed to happen in some minor league parks.

57 post-season starts for Buster Posey.

14 shutouts.

Ron is right about the systematic error of the home plate ump. He was rather consistently off and I bet the crew chief or some big wig has a talk with him. Something wrong … oh well no biggie.
We certainly have some calm dudes on the mound. Not a lot of gesticulating and fist pumping. I guess that is a bit of a reflection of the coaching staff.
Two shutouts! So far! I love how bad the heart of the doggers lineup is doing.

Longoria is easily my least favorite Giant… but , hey, good job dude

The TBS announcers must have mentioned several times that the Dodgers have the best home record in baseball. But to make the broadcast more interesting and more balanced, they could have mentioned how good the giants road record was. The umpire report showed significant ball and strike errors in favor of the dodgers. Even the dodgers cannot understand why they did not win despite the Umpire calling the game in their favor. https://dodgersway.com/2021/10/12/dodgers-umpire-ted-barrett-nlds-game-3-vs-giants/?fbclid=IwAR1YduuVXGtojw4vWQyRRPVwV0Vju8li3H53jaG4NEyGz2JOxsPjpDa1KHk I hope that the dodger post is able to be seen. They just cannot understand how they lost. They also say the dodgers hit the ball harder than the giants, but what about Longoria's line out, and Yaz, and Crawford each hit balls as hard as the dodgers. Great defense by both teams, may have shown the east coast and midwest fans why these teams have won so many games. I liked Pedro Martinez description of the giants as being smooth.

It works in the Giants favor to have all the attention on the Dodgers. The ESPN game story was "Wind denies Lux game-tying HR" which can hardly be more biased! Everyone thinks the Dodgers are shoo-ins. Maybe they believe it, too. Just puts more pressure on them to perform. Giants have been winning all year and have kept their heads. One more win!!!

I listened to the broadcast of the NL Wild Card game and turned it off, tied, after one inning because I had heard enough of dodger fellatio and trite cliches to last me the rest of the year. The Giants' radio announcers spent much of this game wondering WTF was going on with the strike zone. Maybe Barrett is retiring and decided to "call it like in the good old days" or some such bullshit. But hey, that was some pitching!

These guys are sure making the case for robotic balls and strikes being called. Maybe they have purchased some stocks in companies who are going to make robot umpires. I thought Angel Hernandez did not call a quality playoff game. Last nights game made Hernandez's game not look so bad.

I listened to the game on am radio - Dodger station because I don't have TBS...Miss Vin's classic voice.. Anyway...Fave moment from last night was when the announcer just couldn't contain himself when Crawford caught that ball. I could imagine his hed shaking back and forth like the old cartoon characters. Hummana Hummana
The hush over the stadium - and the entire city here later- was priceless too.
Go Giants!

Damn, late to the comments show. Rockin the comments from that crazy and amazing game. It’s good when the press keeps playing SF as the underdog. They play best when others are in doubt. Parsons, shocked by your Longo feelings. He is better than the ratings.

Zo wins this comment thread with his “dodger felatio “ masterclass effort.
