Young guys pitch, old guys hit

SF 4  LA 0

The Giants shut out the Dodgers in Game One of the LDS behind a sensational start by Logan Webb. He dominated the toughest lineup in baseball for 7-2/3 innings, whiffing ten without a walk and yielding only five hits. The Dodgers were shut out just five times in 2021. Webb got eleven ground balls, defusing LA's power, and got some help in key spots from the infield. Tommy La Stella and Brandon Crawford turned a ridiculous double play in the 4th, La Stella glove-flipping the ball to Craw who had to stutter-step to the bag before getting off the throw. It was beautiful, man. Just a great night all around for the team.

And speaking of La Stella, he walked to open the game against Walker Buehler. Despite his name, he's not known for walks. With two outs Buster Posey launched a homer to right field that bounced into the water and suddenly it felt like this would be the Giants night. Of course it was Buster who got things going! Webb took care of the rest. Both Kris Bryant and Brandon Crawford chipped in solo shots to pound home the win and the bullpen closed it out. Trevor Rogers finished the 8th and Camilo Doval had nine-pitch 9th.

Kevin Gausman gets the ball tomorrow night (6:07 PT) against Julio Urias. I hope everyone is stoked after the fabulous victory tonight! What a great start to the post-season! Let's see some more of that!

GO GIANTS!

BEAT LA!!

I want all giants fans to do whatever they do with the baseball gods to make sure that there is no reciprocal shutout, and in fact the giants win again tomorrow. Longo has to start hitting. What a great performance by the giants tonight. For many baseball fanatics, the giants dodgers series is the real world series. I bet the dodgers wish they still had kiki hernandez on Friday.

It really was the Logan show. Rocklin must be rockin’ today. That was a Tim or Madbum type of thing….one for the ages.
My favorite aspect was how bad he made T Turner look. Turner had a 20 game hitting streak going, won the batting crown by hitting 400 for the last month. And Logan owned him. I don’t think Turner hit a foul ball, just bad misses. I also love that Logan got about 4 comebackers from the mighty chumps. So much to appreciate.

We talked a lot about Timmy and MadBum!

I love how the Giants turned the narrative upside-down. The Giants had the post-season greenie manager and the post-season newbie pitcher and the Dodgers had all the "crucial" post-season experience with Roberts and Buehler. Hah!

And yes about T Turner--Webb was kryptonite against him.

We were just watching the TBS talking heads and when they finally got around to talking about our game all they did was talk about the Dodgers, mainly how the loss of Muncy is even worse than the loss of Kershaw. They went on and on about how good Muncy is. They said virtually nothing about the Giants. It's as if they're preparing excuses for the smog suckers.

At least during the game the announcers compared the loss of Muncy and the loss of Belt as similar losses. They did mention that Muncy had 8 home runs vs. the giants, but they also mentioned how the loss of Belt affected the giants on both offense and defense, and when the giants failed to turn the DP in the first, they mentioned that if Belt were in there it would probably have been a double play. Yes Kershaw was not fully Kershaw this year, and the giants lost Aaron Sanchez and finally released him. At times before injury it looked as if Sanchez would be a very good pitcher. Perhaps his loss allowed Webb's emergence. LA is such a large media market that they are the West Coast team that gets undue media coverage. Living here on the East Coast the West Coast teams on the media are often after thoughts. However, for a time, many of the Marlin's announcers, (at least during the early years) had connections to the giants and Marlins fans often had their fair share of SF Giants news. No longer the case.
