Webb gets whacked

TOR 6  SF 1

The Blue Jays jumped on Logan Webb from the get-go, scoring five runs on six hits in the 1st inning and that was enough to even the series. That spoiled a nice run of excellent starts. Toronto went with their own version of a bullpen game getting three frames from veteran Trevor Richards and four from rookie Bowden Francis. Austin Slater's solo shot in the 5th was the only Giants run. Webb threw four scoreless after the disastrous 1st and departed after 92 pitches. Ross Stripling took the final three innings, throwing 50 pitches and yielding a run.

The 45-35 Giants play their 81st game tomorrow evening (7:07 4:07 PT). That's the halfway mark of the season! They go to New York to play the Mets after that.

Go Giants!

ESPN lists it as 7:07 Eastern time, 4:07 here on the shores of the Pacific.

It seems several of the giants worst games this month came after a first inning explosion by the opposition. I am wondering why several giants pitchers seem to not be ready in the first inning, only to settle down after the first. It has now happened to Cobb, Webb, Desclafani, and Wood this month. In today's 2-1 loss J.D. Davis kicked out of a game for the first time. I think he is just sick of all the close calls going against him. Unfortunately J.D. and Kapler getting kicked out of the game could not spark the giants to an offensive explosion. For those that think Pederson is a terrible fielder, it is time to re-evaluate that position. Hopefully the giants can have a winning series in N.Y. One bad mistake cost Winn the game. The giants seem to do their worst hitting against other teams 4th and 5th starters. Not that they hit well against Gausman, but when he is on, nobody hits him.

Winn pitched great. I was gutted when he gave up the homer.

The call on Davis was bad and at a critical time.

Seems as if when we get men on base, with some umps, the strike zone suddenly expands.

FanGraphs takes a look at the Giants top 49 prospects.

I'll save you a trip: Matos, Harrison, Bailey are 1-2-3.

The article refers to the Giants system as "above average" overall.

FanGraphs also has a farm system rankings page.

The Giants are listed as the tenth-best out of MLBs 30 teams.
