"Always liked" Rowand? I think not.
At least the Giants won today.
It was a crappy day to pitch. We got only six hits but drew 11 walks. The Mets got 11 hits but drew only 5 walks.
Didn't I say things were going to be weird today?
Huge, huge effort by Wilson to bail out the 'pen.
Maybe there IS something to this "Aaron Rowand is good every third year" thing." Check out 2004 and 2007. Awesome blast today--opposite field on an ugly day for baseball. Citi Field looks like a nice park but this weekend it played a lot like Candlestick!
Juan Uribe has never had more than 34 walks in a full season--he had a career high 4 today, bringing his season total to 11. Aaron Rowand has 1 walk so far in 2010. That's right--ONE. His career high is 47.
The Giants getting 11 walks today moved them from 86, or 15th place, (pathetic Houston is last with an abysmal 55) to 97, or 14th place, just ahead of Florida and just behind Pittsburgh.
No denying it, Rowand has been awesome of late. Not only 11 walks, but 2 hit batsman. I am liking the way Downs looks, too. This was not a good game offensively, in spite of the win. Given all the opportunity, we should have had about 8 runs by the time Tim was taken out of the game. Still, keep in mind that the Giants have just come off a 4-6 road trip.
Whoa, the subliminal messages blew my mind. Brian Wilson was magical (5 K's).
And you're a teacher? I never imagined that to be your occupation. What do you teach?
Make that TWO walks for Rowand. A's pitcher Dallas Braden throws a perfect game against a very hot Tampa Bay.
Buster Posey ain't ready for the The Show and AAA players aren't any good, anyway. That's a paraphrase of our classy and articulate GM (H/T to Hardball Talk). Winning or not, no one expects our catchers to keep bashing ML pitching. We have to find a way to get another bat in the lineup. At some point, the Giants are going to have to play Posey!
