Break Time!

The lovingly improbable San Francisco Giants (52-40) stretched their first place lead to three games by smacking down the Mets today 4-2. Yep, four runs...pretty much a Giants slug fest. At least Matt Cain (game score 63) probably felt that way considering the Giants have given Cain a meager 3.7 runs per game throughtout his career. Nate Schierholtz joined in the slugging vibe with a stellar 4-4 night. Even newly activated Mike Fontenot chipped in with 3 hits...maybe he's been gone so long he forgot that we are a weak hitting team. Yeah...four runs, kinda decadent really, we only needed three. Feels good.

With the All-Star game looming, we all have several days to revel in many glorious notions. Come on, we are in first! Let's revel. Here's my short list:

* how long can Pablo Sandoval go? 21 and counting...
* will Ryan Vogelsong continue to amaze?
* how many more walk-offs, is there a limit on magic?
* and what about Brandon Crawford...and Brandon Belt?

This team is full of great stories and bright futures. Can Timmy, Matt and the rest of the goofballs pull it off again? Talk amongst yourselves.

You ask good questions. The answer to all is "We shall see." Sandoval seemed liked a future all-star 2 years ago when he barely missed making the team. Then he had an off year and now he's back to where we hoped he'd be. Schierholtz has been wonderful lately and last night he reveled in the role of cleanup hitter. If he can maintain any consistency at the plate he''l be a huge asset. I see a strong similarity between him and Crawford, both outstanding defensively, the only question is how much they can help on offense, and how soon.

Another question: Will Carlos Beltran become part of the magic?

If we do get Beltran, I hope it is for minor leaguers, and I hope that he stays healthy. Imagine if we actually had played Bowker, and Schierholtz earlier, maybe with more everyday play the would not hav eturned into giants minor leaguers who never were appropriately developed. Maybe regular play in the majors is important and the lack of such play is why guys like Linden Bowker, Lewis etc. never met their god given potential. By that I mean the baseball Gods given potential.

Yo it's been a while, but I've been here reading. NJ is hawt. Awesome write-up JC. It's good to know that RMC has depth in its writing staff. Go Giants!

Hey Mark, I can't seem to create my own post anymore. Can you look into this?

@Bob
Mark is still busy but I looked into it and nothing has changed. You are still an authorized author. I guess I can give you admin rights...MOC is kinda picky about that tho.
I did notice a difference after log in. You don't get a new post offer until you go back to the sign in. In other words, the way to get to the dashboard is by hitting sign in again. Try that and let me know.

@Anony
Thanks for the kind words. They mean alot. I was a little worried after a couple posts with ZERO hecklers. No body writes as well as our MOC but I try my best. He should be back soon!

Your posts are great, Jon! And, thanks for your very nice comments about my Family - they are great! We really enjoyed seeing you & Robyn & had a wonderful stay in Ashland. We ended up also seeing the excellent 'Measure for Measure' on Thursday night, getting 1/2-price tickets at 7:30 PM on the night of the performance - apparently, any remaining tickets go on sale for 1/2 price an hour before a performance.

It's been a little busy around here, what with getting back home, then going on our annual cherry-picking expedition to the Yakima Valley, then getting back to work.

It is rather amazing to see Giants 3 games ahead, despite some of the weirdness, injuries, & flat out crappy performances that have been included in their first 92 games. The heroes have been the Pitchers, of course, but also Nate, Panda, & Crawford, not so much for being awesome, but for at least looking like a pro, not an over-matched neophyte. Brian Wilson returning to reliability is a prerequisite for continued success. F. Sanchez may be back to help soon. If the right deal(s) come along, we need to make them & be prepared to give up something. However, I'm not sure that much substantial will present itself, so it'll be more picking up role players to fill important needs. That worked last year.

Well you can't "go back to sign in." It becomes "sign out."

@Bob
I'm confused now...if you got it to say sign out then you are at the dashboard and can write a new post. At least thats how it works for me. Oh well, I changed you to an admin. If that doesn't work then maybe you changed your email or something (still nursebob...?)

Please post if you can. You got one of those history pieces in mind?

I figured out my problem. No worries.
