Blach Leads Giants

SF 10 PHI 0
It was the best game of the season. Ty Blach threw a 112-pitch shutout and the lineup got 15 hits and scored 10 runs. It was the kind of game the Giants need to play, oh, ten more times, at least. I'm happy the rookie is looking good, we need young blood badly on this club. Giants beat up on a team much worse than them--let's hope they keep doing that.

when Bumgarner comes back, who leaves the rotation? Certainly not Blach.

Cain. He can be the super-reliever like Yusmeiro Petit.

I think Cueto will be traded. His recently reported comment about the uncongenial (to him) quiet in the Giants' clubhouse suggests that he is ready to opt out; and since he reportedly made the comment in April, its appearing now suggests that the Giants are quietly advertising that they expect him to do so. Where pennant races are hot, contenders might bid high for a half-season of Cueto's services, whereas if he remains a Giant till opt-out time, the Giants will get nothing for him. The sooner the Giants can sort out offers for him, I would think, the more they could extort from a team that might be able to get t the WS with another ace in the rotation; and the more the Giants bumble, the better the trade to a contender would look to Cueto, too.

Our rotation would then be Bumgarner, Blach, Samardzija, Moore, and Cain, while Beede gets ready to join it next year. Our lineup might sport an additional outfielder, one who can actually hit the baseball pitched to him.

Yusmeiro, Petit, is pitching quite nicely this year.

If Cueto continues to have an ERA worse than 4.00 opting out may not be a great move for him. He may have a difficult time matching that 20 million plus per year if he looks as if he is moving in a downward direction. On the other hand, he seems to be quite a popular giant. He had issues in the Dominican, which I am sure are over with now. A move of Cueto, should be totally dependent on the giants really being out of the race, and the return has to be well worth it.

You have to think a team like Houston would be a fit, who wouldn't want another starter for the post-season? Cleveland? Yankees? Some team will want him for the tournament, he's a proven commodity. I hope if Cueto goes at the deadline the Giants get youngsters. Giants got aging stud Beltran for up-and-coming Wheeler, could we flip that and get a young stud bat for a veteran ace? And I expect Beede to supplant Cain by 2018, maybe even by the end of this season. I'm really happy Matty is getting to pitch and he's doing fine for a 5th starter but I do believe his future is in relief (and I hope he believes that, too).
