It was the same story today as yesterday. The Yankees had too much firepower for the Giants and the home squad had a late rally to make it a little less painful.
Alex Reyes of the Cardinals punched a wall after a bad start in AAA and broke his pinky. I guess that sort of thing is not limited to Hunter Strickland!
The giants were both sloppy and quite unlucky. Again, Panik's last AB, although the giants were down by 6 runs, was literally taken away from him by the Ump. Hard to start a rally when two pitches out of the strike zone were called strikes. So many of pitches by giants' pitchers were in those same spots and called balls. Giants still need to find a way to get started on the offense in the early innings. It is almost as if the giants are giving the opposition a three plus inning handicap. The hitters are not ready early in the game, and now that virus has spread to the pitchers.
The best hitters on the team aren't hitting what they could be and they are batting in the wrong spots. The three highest OBAs should hit 1-2-3. Most teams have a power threat up in the 1st inning. Giants don't really have a power threat. They need a hot bat that can clobber the ball who gets five chances every night, and most especially a chance in the 1st inning.
The Yankees had too much firepower and overwhelmed Giants pitchers. (The starters, mostly.) Let's hope that was a blip and they can get back to pitching well.
