"Mr. 18th Inning"

SF 3  COL 2 (18)
Brandon Belt doubled to lead off the 18th inning and eventually scored on a grounder by Erik Kratz (who caught the entire game) and the Giants slipped past the Rockies to make it two in row. Yes, it reminded everyone of another 18-inning game!

The lineup managed only 8 hits and 5 walks (along with 17 strikeouts) so the accolades go to the pitching staff, and I mean staff. The entire bullpen was used and even starter Dereck Rodriguez had to pinch-hit (for Vincent in the 16th--K looking). Moronta-Dyson-Watson-Smith-Melancon-Gott-Vincent-Bergen combined for 13 shutout innings allowing five singles and two walks while punching out 19 batters. It was a spectacular effort especially from Travis Bergen who whiffed five in his two innings (the 17th and 18th!). Nick Vincent covered the three (14th, 15th, and 16th) before that--that was 1/3 of his season total so far! Even Mark Melancon, who dug himself into a hole in the 10th and the 11th, showed some moxie wriggling out both times.

Zo said he wanted a team with grit. Well, throw in some moxie and I'm behind that all the way!

That's back-to-back wins for the first time in 2019. Let's see if they can make it three in a row. MadBum takes the hill at 1:05 Pacific.

GO GIANTS!

After the game, Belt said that he is the best 18th inning player in the history of the game. And I believe he is correct. I don't know if this team will win enough games to make their fair weather fans happy, but I am getting more hopeful that they will be respectable. I look for entertainment and not being humiliated. Not a high bar, I know. And, of course, I want Madison to win, strike out everybody, and hit a dinger. A slightly higher bar..

I wonder what the FFR/CNR* ratio was for this game?

We were talking the same thing at breakfast this morning--it was a 5h35m game and started at 7:15 so that means they were launching fireworks around 1:00 AM.
