BCraw leads the way

SF 5  AZ 2

The Giants got 17 hits in four games in Washington, D.C. They got 14 hits tonight in San Francisco. They missed a lot of scoring chances early on and had to grind out the win, but it still counts as #41 in the standings. Brandon Crawford hit an opposite-field two-run homer in the 5th to break a 1-1 tie, and added a sacrifice fly in the 8th to bring in the final run. Alex Wood started and went six, giving up the two Arizona runs. Dominic Leone took the 7th, Tyler Rogers the 8th, and Jake McGee the 9th. It was classic Rogers: ground ball out, line drive single, ground ball single, ground ball double play (3-6-1!), the whole thing in 7 pitches (6 strikes). The Diamondbacks have now lost 20 straight road games.

It looks like it might be a bullpen game tomorrow night (6:45 Pacific) and Sammy Long is expected to make an appearance.

Go Giants!

seems as if after the giants left Pittsburgh in a tough series the Pirates have lost 8 straight. After we lost a home game to Arizona earlier in the season, they decided they would no longer win on the road. Lets hope the giants keep the Arizona no win on the road streak going. I never realized how poor a hitter that Wood is. Never quite realized that before this year. I hate that after he thought he had strike 3, he grooved a pitch and he gave up a home run. Wonder how many times that happens in a season. Also thwarting a rally was what should have been a leadoff walk to Belt on a full count, and instead of getting rewarded for taking a pitch that was outside, he gets called out, with an umpire special. That is the life of Belt. At least he was able to hit the ball. Even though the team is doing very well, there are several hitters who have yet to break out. Keeping the team healthy should be a key to having a strong remainder of the season.

The team really misses Longoria, I think. And Ruf was lighting it up before he got hurt. And we never really got to see La Stella perform. With both Tauchman and Casali hitting under .200 the run-scoring takes a dive with them in the lineup. At least Casali got some hits! Tauchman was the only starter last night NOT to get a hit--he was 0-for-4. So far, the team depth has paid off and the Old Guys keep coming through. I don't want to think about what would happen if BCraw got hurt.

My friend who is a big Yankee fan told me about Tauchman. His representation was totally accurate. He said he is a very good outfielder. He will give disciplined at bats, but at times has a tendency to hit a lot of good pitches foul and not put them in play. When he does he is probably around a 250 hitter in a normal year. The only thing he got wrong was the 250. But he is as described. I hope he starts hitting a bit better, as he has significant value in the field. Of interest this year. It seems as if Slater, who used to have a strong outfield arm, no longer seems to have that strong arm. I wonder if there is some kind of minor injury there. Taughman seems to have a decent arm, Yaz's arm is mediocre, and at the moment it seems as if Ruf, had the best outfield arm, which is accurate, and decent but not great. Duggar seems to also have a very mediocre arm. I could be wrong but that is how it appears on TV.

Tim Lincecum turns 37 today. I changed my pic to celebrate that fact!

Time for a Timmy comeback. If only in our dreams.
