Bupkes

WSH 5  SF 0

The Giants were blanked by Joe Ross today, the second time they were shut out this weekend. In fact they only scored three runs in the series, so it's amazing they won two of the four games. Kyle Schwarber hit two homers off Johnny Cueto to go along with the game-winner he hit off Kevin Gausman yesterday. His second homer, a three-run shot in the 2nd inning, came on a neck-high fastball. It's hard to imagine anyone hitting a homer on a pitch like that! Giants bats have gone stone cold. Let's hope home-cooking heats them up!

Alex Wood takes the ball tomorrow night in San Francisco at 6:45 Pacific, opening a four-game set with the Diamondbacks.

Go Giants!

I can imagine Marvin Benard, and Pablo Sandoval hitting home runs on neck high pitches, but more often just missing the pitch and whiffing. Hopefully it was just a bad 4 game stretch of which they were lucky to come out with two wins. The giants this year seem to do better against the good pitchers, than the guys they have to face with ERA's over 4 or 5.

One perspective is that they only managed 3 runs in 4 games against a last place team (although, arguably, a team that is probably a good deal better than their standing). Another view is that they scored 3 runs in 4 games and won 50% of them. That is some effective pitching. Of course, they are going to need a bit more offense to continue at even a .500 pace.

They pitched really well in D.C. They just haven't been hitting since that last game in Texas. They've shown they can bounce back from bad stretches in these first 65 games, I think they'll keep doing that.

The thriftiest option would have been winning 2 games of 4 while only scoring 2 runs. But that would have required two shutouts.
