MadBeast!!

Madison Bumgarner has certainly delivered since getting the call-up. Three starts: 22 IP, 17 H, 8 R, 5 BB, 15 SO against Boston, Colorado, and Milwaukee, all potent-hitting clubs. Tonight he racked up a Game Score of 78 by throwing EIGHT shutout innings! MadBeast even clubbed an RBI-single in the top of the 8th inning. Before I get too excited about a young pitcher, I always remind myself that Ed Halicki once threw a no-hitter, and I thought he was the Second Coming. Of course, I was in high school at the time and had none of the veteran savvy wisdom I now possess. Nonetheless, in a dismal stretch of Giants baseball, Madison Bumgarner has been a bright spot.

For the second straight night, the Brewers botched an inning-ending double play ball and the Giants capitalized with a heap o'runs. This time it was veteran Craig Counsell who made an errant throw, saving Pablo Sandoval from ignominy. I like playing the Brewers. Let's see if we can get the schedule changed so we can play them some more. In fact, let's just stay in the NL Central (17-7 record) the rest of the way, OK?

The Franchise goes tomorrow. His last two starts have been troubling: 9 IP, 14 H, 8 R, 7 BB, 8 SO against Boston and Colorado. Is it just normal variation? The usual ups and downs that every pitcher goes through? Or is Tim's Missing Mojo the sign of something else? Fatigue? Injury? This guy has shouldered not only a huge workload but the enormous expectations of the organization and the fan base. It's a lot, even for an exceptional talent like Tim. The baseball season is a long, hard slog--a war of attrition. Let's hope our No. 1 guy gets his groove back soon. So far, Milwaukee seems like the place to do it.

I hope that we don't trade any pitcher for especially someone like Corey Hart. It'll be Aaron Rowand all over again. When will they learn?

Timmy is no longer our Ace, MadBeast is now our ace which gives us an excellent rotation which should not be broken up not even for a hitter not named albert Pujols.

Hart's a decent player and only 28. The problem is he won't come cheap. The Giants will "overspend" either in prospects or pitchers.

And Tim is still our ace.

Jonathan Sanchez = 1.6 WAR

Corey Hart = 2.1 WAR

I still think JSanchez would be a high price for Hart.

WAR for JSanchez and Hart needs to be modified by considering who would pitch for us--not "Replacement"--if Sanchez departed and who would not play for us (Schierholtz? Burrell? Ishikawa?) if his place were taken by Hart. I would say that to give up Sanchez, with Wellemeyer our fallback, would be much to high a price for Hart, replacing the players to whom we would not be able to give playing time.

And do we believe that the Giants are "one player away"? When we were riding high a few weeks ago, I started to think so. After our terrible showing against the Dodgers and Rockies, I'm not so sure. We have a black hole at SS. You have to figure Torres and Huff will regress some. FSanchez already has. The Panda still looks lost. Adding a batter won't help as much as we would like, esp. if we lose a quality starter and can't replace him.

We are one player away if the player is like Albert Pujols. I agree with Mark - it seems like we have a lot of supporting cast and not a key player, as well as Torres and Huff have been. A true key slugger could make other players around him better, but I don't see that happening, and I agree that another supporting player for Jonathan Sanchez is way to high a price to play.

Dudes, Corey Hart is having a career year which didn't even start looking that good until May when he got really hot. I really don't trust him. He is too eerily similar to Rowand. Both have had great seasons separated by 2 nothing special ones, both don't walk too much, both were aided by where they played which inflated their numbers (at least for Rowand), and I don't want this team to break up the rotation.

Also, one great start and Madison is our new ace? There were a lot of flyballs and other hit balls that could have easily lead to danger. I mean, he's been pitching good but come on, Timmeh is the franchise. Despite all of the sloppy starts, he's still pitching above average compared to the rest of the league overall with and 8-4 record. Just wait for the break. Maybe a little rest will be good for the team.

So, the "Anonymous" who said "Timmy is no longer our Ace" is not the same "Anonymous" who said "Timmeh is the franchise"??

I'm confused!!

It is I! I am the true Anonymous from NJ. I disagreed with the other anonymous individual who claimed that Timmeh was no longer our ace. From now on, I'll put an NJ somewhere in my comment.

See Mr. Lefty Malo today (7/8) for more commentary on Corey Hart.
