Matt Cain gives up runs

Re: Sunday's game vs. Philadelphia

Throw a shutout.

And hope for the best.

p.s. Matt Cain has thrown 15 innings against the Phillies in 2011 and allowed seven hits and three runs, only one of them earned. He's walked three and struck out nine. His Game Scores were 67 and 76. He gets assigned a win and a loss for his efforts.

Phillies take their away series (and season series) against the Giants. Philadelphia has dominated on both sides of the ball in San Francisco, scoring 14 runs and giving up only three.

It will get better. They've tanked, SD 2010 style and yet, they are still in first and have an easy September schedule.

And you gotta love Matt Cain!

They have to start scoring runs, period.

Maybe Tim can get his first homer today. Wow, I actually wrote that NOT as a joke, too. Scary...

Gee, guess we should have got Pence, huh? They haven't lost with him and we have won, what, once or twice with Carlos. They gave up 4 not much prospects (valued less than Wheeler) and I don't think he's a rental either. Not sure, tho. I do know he is YOUNGER and BETTER than Beltran. The Phillies are not doing much wrong...good thing they don't matter til later.
I hope.

Don't worry, Tim will hit a home run today.

2011: $6.9 million. 2012-2013: Arb. Eligible. Two more years of arb!!! What a steal.

"Phillies acquired OF Hunter Pence and cash considerations from the Astros for 1B-OF Jonathan Singleton, RHPs Jarred Cosart and Josh Zeid and a player to be named later"

And WTF about DeRosa? We NEED Belt's bat immediately...he has nothing to prove in the minors. Yet, DeRosa rides the pine. Not even pitch hitting!! That is scary. Are we embarassed to admit he's toast? With Nate being Nate again we must have Belt soon.

That ball Pence hit off Cain was outside and down and he reached out Pablo-like and poked it to right. I've no doubt they were trying to get him to flail at it or roll it over to second base. Little stuff like that goes the other way when a team is struggling. The Phillies are smoking. I can only hope they peak too early. Giants need to get back on the winning side of things.

Pence would have cost us Wheeler, Brown, & that guy we gave up for Cabrera (I can't remember his name now). Pence is a good player, but, had we made that deal, there would been a lot of whining about giving up prospects. Pence may be arbitration-eligible, but he will get big raises in the next couple of years.

Beltran will contribute - I'm not worried about that. He brings different things to the table than Pence. He's not old, but he is too old to be getting the kind of contract that he'll probably want at the end of the season. Therefore, we will probably not be in-the-running to sign him at the end of the season. I imagine that he'll end up on the Yankees or Red Sox or some team that consistently over-pays.

Regarding yesterday's posts about panic, I am not panicking. I still truly believe that we will still win the division going away. But, the last run of games has just been a misery - the kind of games that make you wish you had never wasted your time watching them. And, the script is so boringly repetitive - get behind early, fail to capitalize on opportunities, lose passively. Yuck.

We all know that this run will end, the sooner-the-better. Today works.
