2nd inning: 6-12

Giants follow a terrible inning with a terrible inning. After a 9-17 (.346) month of April they bounce back with a 3-7 (.300) May. It doesn't matter how you slice the numbers they still come out ugly. Their 12-24 (.333) record is the worst in the majors. That's two losses for every win, not exactly a formula for success.

And sorry for not posting about last night earlier.

The Giants were Blach at home and back in their 2 runs per game comfort zone. They had 2 home runs, a magnificent shot from Brandon Belt onto the netting in the Garden Zone at ATT (or whatever it's called) and a shot into the right-center field stands from Denard Span (who was 4 for 5 on the night). Ty Blach pitched pretty well, too. Last start aside, I'm liking what I see from him. Too bad he has so little to show for it. He worked out of trouble a couple of times, but then so did Bronson Arroyo. In fact, the Giants had plenty of chances to score (9 men left on base) including in the 9th inning, when a previous-day style comeback was shaping up with 2 men on and 2 out, only to have Belt hack at the first pitch for a lazy fly ball third out. Blach threw 7, giving up 2 runs on 5 hits, Strickland threw the 8th and gave up the winning run, and Osich threw a perfect ninth. Giants lose 3 - 2. Like I said, I like the looks of Ty Blach. He is a gritty left hander with a good looking delivery. Too bad the club around him looks like shit.

You know, the St. Louis Cardinals were in last place not too long ago. They put together an 11 - 4 streak to wind up in first place in the NL Central. Unfortunately, even an 11 game winning streak would not get the Giants to .500. We'll play them on the next road trip.

No worries. I was expecting to squeeze in my innings post between you and JC. I think Blach is doing fine but he'll have to spend some time picking Matt Cain's brain about pitching with no run support.

If you cannot score you cannot win. In extra innings at home you should be able to find a way to muster up a run. These guys this year will just not take the walks.
