Mercy! PR Crushes God's Team

The World Baseball Classic utilizes the same rule as Little League- if a team is ahead by 10 or more runs the game is stopped after 7 innings. This is what happened to Team USA Saturday in Miami with final score of 11-1. Ouch!
Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez continued his great WBC play by going 3 for 4. The Giants denied rumors that they are interested in signing Pudge to be their 1st baseman. Travis Ishikawa is the clear front-runner for the job, as he homered Saturday in Scottsdale in a loss to the A's.

They use that rule in our city league softball. The team I play on knows it real well.

It does seem rather odd that we would be interested in Pudge. We already have Benjie, we have Pablo Sandoval who is a catcher, and secondarily a first baseman, and we have a young first baseman in Ishikawa. So why get another catcher who might also play first? This does not solve our third base problem, it only clogs up the developmental basepaths elsewhere. Just like Homer Simpson has a fixation on doughnuts, I think Brian Sabean zones out on savvy veterans. Oooooo, savvy veterans.....

Pudge signed with Houston. Snatched that jelly-filled, sprinkle-topped sugar-glazed goody right from under Brian Sabean's nose.
