The Switch Was Flipped

Goddammit.

The Giants won 7 of their last 8 games.   They won them by 1 and 2 runs, until the last couple in Arizona when they scored 16.  And they were looking good tonight.  A first-pitch home run by Gorkys and a 3rd inning rbi double by Buster that scored Brandon Belt put the Giants up 2 - 0.  Meanwhile, Madison Bumgarner was on the mound.  He didn't look real sharp to start the game, but got through the 1st inning unscathed.  He cruised through the 2nd, but loaded the bases before escaping with no runs in the 3rd.  A crisp 4th, 5th and 6th followed with only a couple hits, while Kyle Freeland stymied the Giants.

Then came the 7th, and the switch was flipped.  A pinch hit single.  Then a bloop.  Then an infield single and Madison was done, having thrown 22 consecutive scoreless innings up to that point.  Reyes Moronta was brought in but he had a real command problem.  A walk gave the Rockies 1.  Then a double play gave the Giants 2 outs but tied the score.  Then an easy grounder that Brandon Crawford inexplicably tossed way wide of Brandon Belt, and I knew that the Giants' run of good fortune (and good baseball) had been turned off.

The Giants put a couple men on base after that, but they didn't threaten.  The Rockies scored 2 more to make the final 5 - 2.  Fucking Coors.  The balls and strikes calls were shitty.  The theme unis look like crap, and as a side note, I do not give a flying fuck about the basketball feed on the bottom of the screen.  So what happens tomorrow?  Does the switch reset?  Or do we get Coorsed until we limp home Thursday?

They need to win a game in Coors. And they need to keep the heat on and win four of six at home before the Break. They've thrust themselves into the pennant race now so they have to start playing like contenders!

Madbum looked good enough but we just ran into one of those innings from hell that occur now and then. They happen a lot in Denver.

The switch is still firmly in the off position.

Off. Definitely off. That was awful.

“Coors”: a pronunciation of the word “CURSE” in the idiolect of the Arenado Blackmon tribe. It is murmured by purple-clad acolytes at the hidden shrine of the god Humidor, and is believed to function as a sort of anti-Cialis, anti-Viagra, causing enemy bats to go strangely limp.

Well. The Giants will play at home until the end of July With the exception of a 2 game set in Oakland and a 2 game set in Seattle. If they can do well enough at home to offset their horrid road skills, the time to prove it is now. Otherwise, that's it for this year.

I really thought they were going to win behind Suarez. Now that they are home for ten games before the Break they need to kick ass. I'm calling for a 7-3 run and a 52-46 (.531) record!

The Giants have gone from a .389 club (after the first inning) to a .527 club, to a .463 club, to a .485 club, to a .511 club with 2 games to go in the fifth inning. Yeah, they need to show some cajones before the break and come out of it playing like they mean it the rest of July. I do not want to go to Seattle and see them look like punks.

The giants really know how to come out flat after a small winning streak. Someone needs to motivate these guys. I have watched Weaver all year. This has been his best outing through 5 innings vs. anyone. Despite the giants hitting the ball hard on multiple occasions they are hitting balls right at players. Everything it seems that St. Louis hits, hard, soft, medium, on the ground or int the air, turns into a hit. With the way that Zona played this week, the giants could have used a few wins since they left Arizona, to narrow the gap. Instead the giants are making luke warm pitchers look like Walter Johnson.

Man, this was a shitty night. I guess I have not learned my lesson. Expectations are bitch, man. Just when the team is putting on a great show they fall flat straight away. Well, let's hope they get it together for the remaining 9 games.

God it sucks that Cueto stunk in his return. This team is making me crazy.

He stunk in the beginning, but after the bad start, he kind of put it together. Fast ball was only around 90 MPH in the first inning, but was 92 or 93 by the third inning.
