Oh, yuck

What the hell did the Giants do on their off-day? They kicked ass on Sunday and after a break on Monday they came out and got bitch-slapped by the FloMars. Did they all go to a ketamine workshop and get in touch with their inner suckitude? Did they forget how to play baseball? Because it sure looked like it. The lowly Fish beat the Giants at every facet of the game. It was a complete and total smackdown.

I think the Giants are going to struggle to score runs the rest of the way. The Devers addition isn't going to improve the lineup all that much. He's just ballast. That is, he's there to make sure the lineup doesn't collapse completely. He's the finger in the dike. Without Devers, the Giants regress and regress and score less and less. With Devers, they stay at a minimum competence level. He had a good day today.

So, now we get to see if the team is resilient and will bounce back. They go on the road to Chicago and face the White Sox. Tomorrow's game is at 4:40 Pacific; Landen Roupp gets the start.

Go Giants!

Not sure our pitching staff at this point is as good as it looked with Birdsong not doing that well his last few outings, just not having crisp control. Also Verlander just is not as sharp as he needs to be. How are we doing since the Devers trade? Maybe it will help as the season continues, but it seems to have had a negative effect on the pitching staff. Not easy to explain. Not so happy about Hjele or Luchesi in the majors and he seems to be over pitching a few relievers and under-utilizing others. We seemed to be better when Birdsong and Harrison were coming out of the pen, but I guess that was not sustainable. Sometimes, a trade, no matter how it looks on paper, can backfire, at least for a while. On the odd side, Harrison had a relatively poor outing for the Redsox triple A team today, but he had not pitched in quite a while. Devers hit today, but the Marlins had their highest run production of the year. Wednesday's game was a game where the ball bounced just perfectly against the giants. It was an odd game. I hope that on Thursday, leaving Hjele in for so long, will earn him a trip to the minors.

Yeah the cracks started to show a bit in this series. Like last year the bullpen got overused and the pitching couldn't hold up. They may have to get another arm. At least they have some options at AAA.

Hjelle goes back to AAA. Carson Seymour gets the call. He came to the Giants as part of the Darin Ruf trade in 2022.

He's done well at AA and AAA but this will be his first test in the majors. He's from SoCal, went to Kansas State, and is 26. He was a 6th-round pick by the Mets in 2021.
