2nd inning: 8-10

1st inning: 6-12

2nd inning: 8-10

It's an improvement, but not by much. And then they went out and lost yesterday. The Giants are tied with the Rockies (14-23, .378) for last place and for the worst record. Their -42 run difference is the worst in baseball.

Not much more to say about that, is there?

We are getting to the third inning and it seems as if any move will have to be made now. It seems to me that Bailey is proving himself to be nothing more than a late inning defensive replacement. We have 3 catchers who can hit better than he can. One will probably have to go. Bailey's great framing is not winning us games. His poor use of the challenge system both on offense and defense are alarming. Yesterday in 2 ab's he had 2 pitches called strikes that were way out of the strike zone. No challenge.

Bailey's season is a disaster. He hasn't hit at all. At least with Devers or Adames you know there is a track record of production. There's a chance they will "revert" to their true selves. But Bailey's hitting has never been good and now it's DFA level.

As far as ABS goes, he's in the middle of the pack, according to Baseball Savant, but he still is rated highly (#4) in overall defensive ("run-value") work. I should note that Luis Arraez is #2 on the same list (with Pete Crow-Armstrong #1 and Bobby Witt Jr #3) at Baseball Savant.

The Giants might have to look at a trade. A catcher who can really contribute with the glove will help a good team get better. A catcher who can't hit will not help the Giants. I'll take Susac and/or Rodriguez' bat over Bailey's glove at this point.

On the other hand, giving up a catcher is usually not a good idea. They are hard to replace.

It is kind of ironic that they did not feel that way about giving up Bart. At least until his concussion last year, he would have made a better backup catcher to Bailey than what we had. And, at a much lower cost. Do we know how good or bad our other 3 catchers, (soon to be 2 catchers) are on defense?

Also, perhaps as a catcher Bailey's use to the challenge is somehow in the middle of the pack, but as a batter, he has been terrible with the use of the challenge. He has had some of the worse strike calls that I have seen all season, and yet no challenge. Seems he has not visual acuity at the plate. Sometimes his swings are literally a foot away from the ball.
