Another (ho-hum) brilliant performance by The Tennessee Stud. The Cain Train just keeps rolling, too bad he didn't get win #13. The Giants needed a sweep and they got it, thanks to Big Sugar doing his thing. The pitching was damn impressive against the Pirates--the Phillies will be much tougher.
I figure Randy Johnson is done. Rotator cuff? Age 45? Fuhgettaboutit. I'll give him his due, he might be the greatest left-handed pitcher ever. So, who's going to take his spot?
Tim Alderson is too much to give up for Freddy Sanchez. Marc Hulet at FanGraphs slices and dices. Grant at McChronic also sums it up nicely. Are they going to DFA Aurilia?

No more Lincecum, Cain, three days of pain?
In a couple years it is Tim, Cain, MadBum, Sanchez and Zito. How did Alderson fit in anyway? Could we really have that many top paid pitchers in one rotation? Not even the highest payroll teams (of which we are one) do that. Somebody had to go...I wish it was Sanchez but...
I approve of the move. We got an All Star 2nd baseman who's a former batting champ. He's in his prime. We gave up a Tim and we already have one of those.
So if in 3 or 4 years it turns out Alderson is great and MadBum is a bust, then we can all piss and moan about that.
Matt Cain is indeed great. Too bad about the return of the no-run-support problem. Two games in a row where the flukiness of wins for pitchers is on display. Romo gets one out and earns a W, then Cain throws what should have been a CGSO and Wilson gets the W, although it did take 4 outs to get out of the inning.
Alderson is a double A pitcher. Sanchez won a batting title not too long ago. There is no way this is not a good deal, because there is no such thing as a major league great who is in double A. Maybe someday Alderson will be a ML pitcher. Maybe he will be great. We have traded an UNCERTAIN, but potentially good future for a CERTAIN upgrade in the field. That is a good deal.
I agree with you.........
it is really good deal.......
