Jake Peavy got a monkey off his back with a fine performance this afternoon. The Giants scored seven in the 7th to back their new righty and stop their losing streak. Pagan, Pence, Posey, Panik, and The Panda all contributed to the win. I suppose we'll have to thank the umpires in NYC as well. I didn't get to see the play but I suppose if you block the plate without the ball you might have to pay for it. Robin Ventura got booted for arguing--I suppose the new homeplate collision rules are still a work in progress. That's OK, these things take time. I'm just glad they are working to eliminate that stupid linebacker nonsense we've watched for years. Adam Dunn giveth and taketh away with another homer but an error as well. I can't believe they put him in right two days in a row.
The Giants win a game. Feels good to say that, eh?
Great matchup on Friday: Cole Hamels and Madison Bumgarner.
GO GIANTS!

p.s. Way to go, Peav!

Giants finally wised up and figured out that Peavy was out to steal the no-run-support crown from Matt. Imagine the nerve, a FNG trying to horn in on one of our own. Way to hang a W on that guy!
I saw the play live and immediately recognized the situation. It is too bad that Ventura reacted the way he did, but, as you say, it will take a while. Still if the managers,especially former players, don't start letting go of that macho crap it will take a lot longer. I don't blame the catcher involved, I'm sure he was trained to play it that way. I'm very proud they made the call because if they didn't catchers won't change their style of play. Except Buster, of course. In fact, the most compelling thing they showed on TV was a side by side comparison of today's play and one that Buster did the other night. It made it very clear that the White Sox catcher was living in the past.
Good point. Giants may be sucking, but they ain't dumb, neither. Posey and the coaches have done a great job in what is very new territory. Bochy was a catcher--he gets it. Ventura might just be too old school.
I should have called it "Coming Up Sevens." 7 runs, 7 hits, 7th inning, Rule 7.13!
You forgot another 7 combo: Peavy 7 IP & 7 Walks plus Hits.
It was Panik's 7th RBI.
So I will never profess to come close to understanding all of the acronyms you gentlemen bandy about, but have a question. What is it about the Giants and day games? Am I imagining things, or does it seem like they are doing better under the sunlight versus the moonlight? Good question for all of your numbers aficionados. A win felt good. May I have some more please?
And I was thinking "Peavy is the new Cain"
Giants are 28-18 in day games. Turn off the damn lights and play more under the sun. Good call, RR. And all acronyms are listed in the Glossary. If they aren't, let me know and I will update it!
FNG = Fucking New Guy.
