A Hit By Pitch, a Bobble, a Wild Pitch, an IBB, a Walk - We'll Take It!

Ai, yi, yi, yi, yi.

What the Giants have to go through to get a win.

Another 13 inning game.  A win, not really of the Giants making.  Beats hell out of another loss, though.  On to Azirona!

Madison Bumgarner on the hill.  6 2/3 innings, 3 hits, only 1 run, 4 walks, 5 K in 116 pitches.  Madison does not quite have the pinpoint control that we are used to from years past - he would frequently go 8 with only 1 BB.  Not that the ump was very helpful in this regard, a small and not particularly consistent strike zone was not helpful to either pitcher.  The Giants took a 4 - 1 lead into the 8th and I was thinking, "See, see what you can do when you score a couple......" but then, Cory Gearrin allowed 2 to put the Giants in need of a save by Santiago Casilla.  They didn't get it.   Giants had their chances.  They put runners on every extra inning, but could not push one across.  I guess that should not have come as a surprise, the Giants were 2 for 16 with RISP in this game and 4 for 33 (I think) in the series.   Buster, who hasn't had a hit in days, got the gwrbi for not striking out.  Bloogies get a day off, the Giants don't until next Monday.  Giants used 8 pitchers and Albert Suarez got a win.  4 games in Az, where the Giants have been able to hit in the past.  Time to act like we have some cajones in this division.

Also, Max Scherzer just tied the MLB mark for strikeouts in a game, set by R. Clemens and K. Wood - 20, Nats vs Detroit.

To think the D-Backs got rid of that guy!

I would have despaired a loss today. To waste so many chances. To waste another good start. To have the 'pen implode. Yikes. I was primed and ready for despair. Alas, they had a pitcher worse than any of ours. And Tulo giveth, and Tulo taketh away. He's not the same player he was. Anyway, like you said, we'll take it. The team really needed a damn win and thank the gods the Jays handed one over.

That's a 10-8 inning so it's back to .500 for the club. Such a lofty standard!

The giants did all they could to give this game back to the Blue Jays, but the baseball Gods had something different in mind. Just to bust the chops of the giants who did everything they could to lose, they handed us a win, that we (the giants) did barely anything to earn. Finally Buster gets an RBI, and it was without even touching the ball. Perhaps a wild pitch instead would have given the giants the win, and Posey would still be stuck on 11 RBI. Perhaps this is the nudge he needed to start driving in runs.

A historical note. On April 29, 1986, four guys (Mark, Jon, Ron and I) and Sue were sitting in the bleachers at Candlestick Park. They put up the line score in the Boston Red Sox vs Seattle Mariners game (3 - 1 Boston). Glancing over our left shoulders at the announcement, the remarks were, "That's the American League, who cares?" Then they posted that Roger Clemens struck out 20. The remarks were, "Oh. Wow."
