Madison Bumgarner on the hill, and the Giants made it 6 in a row in San Diego. I don't know how to describe it, but Maddy looked his best this year on the mound. He was somehow smoother, maybe not his delivery per se, maybe it was his rhythm between pitches that's smoother. I love watching that long delivery that seems slow and watch batters miss a 91 mph fastball. Madison threw a complete game and it took him 108 pitches. A number of those pitchers were to batters who struck out - 11 batters, to be exact, including the last one of the game. He gave up 1 run, a towering solo home run shot to Matt Kemp as the first batter of the 9th inning. Only 5 hits, 0 walks and 1 issue with Wil Myers. That's the Madison we have come to know and love.
Brandon Crawford was the other half of tonight's story. He had 5 rbi in a 5 - 1 game. A 3-run blast in the 2nd (after which Madison struck out the side), a sac fly in 6th to score Buster, and a double in the 8th to score Hunter (who had 3 hits and scored twice).
The Giants had a day off, and went to the zoo. That is now the 6th victory in a row. Let's rock.

a bunch of quality starts in a row. I will say that Kemp in that game must have taken away at least 2 or 3 extra base hits with his fielding. Giants centerfielder made one of his best plays of the year also. Belt with a fine play on Kemp. Kemp is supposedly on the trade block? Not sure why.
Madison had his 27th game in which he struck out 10 or more batters last night. They showed a graphic on the tv last night of the Giants leaders in double-digit strikeouts. Unfortunately, I can't find the stat to reproduce the numbers. Madison is in the top 5. The others: Jason Schmidt, Juan Marichal, Christy Mathewson. These guys are all in the high 20's. The leader: Tinm Lincecum, with 36.
You mean the Tim Lincecum who is still a Free Agent? Is that deal ever going to get done, or is there something wrong with it?
Yeah, that is what I'm hoping, that the deal falls thru for some reason, like Vogelsong and Houston, and he ends up with SF instead.
I still think that he can be an effective pitcher still. I prefer him relieving so as to extend his ability to last a season with hurting his body. Don't know why he is so against the idea, both Eckersly and Smoltz made it OK for a starter to close or do relief. Still, prefer him back with us because I think he can be better than our other options, especially long relief, not everyone can do it and he has done it before.
And Casilla's contract is up, as well as Peavy, so he could take either role.
