Sweep!

5-3 win in AZ
Giants win three games in a row for the first time since July and three in a row on the road for the first time since June. It was a great display of Veteran Savvy Clutchness by the lineup to grind away against the always formidable Zack Greinke and end his day in the 6th after scoring the go-ahead runs. It would have been a shame to waste the superb start from FNG southpaw Matt Moore who fanned eleven in seven frames and allowed only two runs. It was nice to see him bounce back after the ugly outing in Colorado. Giants pick up a game on LA and are now three back with twenty left to play. Hunter Strickland got a four-out save--we'll see if the 'pen can adapt to their new roles. The Padres are in town tonight and face Jeff Samardzija,

GO GIANTS!

Buster's been saving himself for now, and Pence is hot enough to start a bonfire. If Pagan can deliver for the rest of the year like he's been doing, I believe there's a good chance Span and Nunez will rise to their norms and play like winners. The Rotation looks pretty good recently. Even Suarez. Is the closer role now TBD?

I'm betting that Moore's problem in Denver was the altitude of Coors Field, and the resulting refusal of his off speed pitches to break as he was used to their doing. He more or less said as much. I have a lot of faith, for what that's worth (bupkis?), that he'll learn how to pitch there and won't need to learn how to pitch elsewhere; and that he will be an excellent #3 in a very strong rotation. I was sorry to lose Duffy for him, but Nunez is hitting for us about as well as Duffy was, and has markedly improved as a fielder, if one judges by defensive fWAR, from minus territory to a current 3.7. Near term, I'd say, the trade for Moore looks like a very strong move.
