Baseball!

The end of the Stupor Bowl marks the beginning of Baseball Season. To be fair, that was an exciting football game. But to be entirely honest, I only started watching in the second half and only really paid attention in the fourth quarter. Regardless, football is over and baseball begins.

GO GIANTS!

Actually, the first half was pretty good, too. That fulfills my football and commercial watching requirements for 2018.

This headline bodes well for the Giants: 'Reds Win Arbitration Hearing Against Eugenio Suarez'

Suarez has been a fantastic Player for the last couple of years, plays a position where we will soon need help (assuming that Longoria will continue to age), & is fairly young. Getting such a measly arb decision, which then flavors arb decisions for the next couple of years, is likely to piss him off. I'd like to see the Giants bolt in & try to acquire him at some point in the near future.

Plus, having another Eugenio isn't so bad, is it?

The Reds would be nuts to let him go--he's got three more years of arb. The Giants would need trade chips to swing a deal like that.

Word is Timmy is out there still, looking for work.

Well, well, well ... our search for the next Vogelsong has resulted in a Minor League deal for Derek Holland. Probably, a smart pick-up.

Yeah. The more, the merrier!

He gives up a frightening number of HR's & has the lowest career fielding percentage I've ever seen for someone with a lot of ML time, but he also has some hopeful upsides. Just another roll of the dice, I guess.

Most of his home innings were in Arlington, so I guess that partially explains all of the HR's.

No Romo though ... he's going back to the Rays. I'm bummed about that.

If Romo is on the Rays, for some reason, he could end up back on the giants if the appropriate circumstances arise.

It is unclear to me if Romo has much to offer as a pitcher, but I want him in the broadcast booth.

Romo signed with the Rays for 1-yr, $2.75M.

Romo finished the season in good form last year.

Here is a thoughtful piece to read about the market for free agents:
