Whiff

LA 5 SF 0
The Giants whiffed at the plate and in the field tonight, striking out ten times against LA starter Kenta Maeda in five innings. They made three errors as well, two of them in the 4th which led to two runs. FNG Andrew McCutchen made a bad decision on a sinking liner to right in the previous inning and turned a single into a triple with go-for-broke dive. That led to a run. It wasn't an error but it was definitely a whiff. It was 5-0 after five innings. Maeda departed having thrown 90 pitches, yielding five hits and a walk, and generally making the Giants look silly.

I thought FNG Derek Holland deserved a little better. Yeah, he showed some jitters with the early runs but I think he got hosed on some ball-and-strike calls later and obviously the rest of the team didn't give him any help. He gutted out an ugly five innings, 80 pitches to 21 batters, only three hits but three walks, and five runs allowed. I'm eager for his next start as I think we'll see some better results.

Act III was a letdown after Acts I and II. Act IV is tomorrow and Chris Stratton gets the call.

GO GIANTS!

p.s. FNG Pierce Johnson had his Giants debut tonight and he threw one scoreless inning (6th) using only nine pitches. Sam Dyson (7th) and Reyes Moronta (8th) also threw scoreless frames. The lineup had nine hits, eight of them singles, and three walks, but left ten men on base, hitting into two double plays.

Jackson, McCutchen, and Longoria who were brought in to help the giants pathetic offense of 2017, are now 2 for 43 through 4 games, batting 046. This has to turn around. The team that was smashing the ball all over the place in Spring training, now has 2 runs in 4 games. Of course winning the first two games, leaves us at 500. Would have hoped that after winning the first two, that we could come away from the series with at least 3 wins. In the second two games of the series bums showed that they will find ways to score. The first run of game 4, and the eventual winning run, came on a most bizarre play, which has to be a throwback to 2017 and should not happen to a team coached by Bruce Bochy. It happened with an infield full of gold glovers'. Living in Florida I have seen Longoria for the last decade. He can go for 2 or 3 weeks at a time, and be very disappointing, and then carry a team for a week or so. He will also strike out a lot. Posey, Belt, and Panik all just missed home runs, at least Posey's went for a double. Hoping we can get through our Bumgarnerless, Melanconless, and Samardizjahless team, at at least 500 or above. Worried that the giants picked up another third baseman that may not work out. Seems to be a pattern. Sometimes it is better to stick with what you have. I do this, with the hope that Longoria turns it around and becomes red hot at the plate.
