Here's a link to the story on the Giants webpage.

For something more relevant, Toots Hibbert is gone, apparently a victim of COVID ... seeing Toots & the Maytals perform was a musical highlight for me ... up in the top 10 shows that I ever saw. A cool guy. Sad news.

Big fans here, too. We saw him in Ashland several years back.

I taped a radio show off KALX in Berkeley back in 1985. I still have the tape (and a backup copy) and of course a cassette player! It has a 30-min show about Toots and the Maytals and some of their early recordings--it is a treasured part of my collection. One of the cuts is them covering "(Sh-Boom) Life Could Be A Dream"!

I also love his version of "Country Roads" (the John Denver song). Of course he wrote some great tunes himself, "Pressure Drop", "Bam-Bam", "Sweet & Dandy", "54-46 That's My Number", etc.

Sad news, as you say.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today says the player who tested positive has received two negative tests since then. So apparently a false positive, which is good news.

They will play a double-header tomorrow. Yikes! Seven-inning games!!

Did you see the story about Sergio Romo? He got suspended for a game due to supposedly provoking a "benches-clearing incident" with Francisco Lindor. The video shows them doing the usual exchange of pleasantries after Lindor flies out and Romo heads back to the dugout. Then suddenly they make a move towards each other and the usual shit happens, a lot of running and pushing but no fighting.

Minnesota is 5-3 against Cleveland and they still have two more games to play.

I don't remember Sergio "getting into it" with anyone while he was with the Giants--maybe one of you guys do. He always had that beatific smile and that "love your neighbor" vibe when he was doing his thing. This season is a weird one and I can see that it could put guys on edge a lot easier than before.

Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area had this on his story:

The player who tested positive for COVID-19 before Friday night's scheduled game against the San Diego Padres has since tested negative, along with everyone else in the traveling party, NBC Sports Bay Area has learned, but the Giants are awaiting additional results.

Padres beat writer Kevin Acee says:

Giants and Padres tests all came back negative. Plan is to play a doubleheader starting at 1:10 p.m.

I've no idea how reliable the other guys (Nightengale and Acee) are, I think Pavlovic is pretty solid, at least I've seen enough of his name and his work to assume he's a pro and not a goddamn gossip.

So, that's the info I have. The Giants website has yet to be updated (it's 0730 PDT for me). They just have Cueto pitching at 1:10 this afternoon and Gausman on Tuesday.

MLB says it will be a DH today.

AmyG tweets that Clevinger gets game one, and I'm assuming it is against Cueto.

Anyway the statement from MLB basically says it was a false positive:

The MLB-MLBPA Joint Committee . . . has determined that the presumptive positive did not represent an actual infection or present a risk to other personnel.
