The Giants spoiled NBC's Wrigley love-fest with a surprising win to take the series from the Cubs. The visitors scored a run in the 1st and another in the 10th and that was just enough. A crazy double play bailed out Erik Miller in the 8th. Keaton Winn gave us indigestion in the 9th but held the line. With a 2-1 lead to protect TonyV went with FNG Dylan Smith who calmly subdued the Cubs with a strikeout and two pop-ups.
Dylan Smith (age 26) was a 2021 3rd-round draft pick for the Tigers from the University of Alabama. He was in their system for five years but injuries derailed his progress. He made his debut last season and got into seven games (13 IP). Detroit DFAd him this year and the Giants picked him up for "cash considerations." Smith was called up from AAA on Wednesday and pitched in the blowout on Friday (1 IP, 2 K)
Jung Hoo Lee kept his hitting streak alive with his two-out RBI single in the 1st. Matt Chapman's opposite-field single was the clutch hit in the 10th.
The Giants come home from their 5-5 trip to face the Nationals tomorrow at 6:45 Pacific. Logan Webb takes the hill.
Go Giants!

According to BB-Ref Dylan Smith's nickname is "The Real Deal." Let's hope so!
Giants had a late game in Chicago on get away day. Then an over 4 hour flight from Chicago. Washington played earlier in Phoenix and then had a 2 hr flight to SF. I am convinced that one of the key reasons that the giants record is as bad as it is, is because they have not adapted to the new challenge smaller strike zone. The giants challenges have been mostly poor. Yesterday, like most gaMes the giants get some definite balls that are called strikes, and they rarely ever challenge those obvious calls suggesting that many of the players have not mastered the strike zone. An example last week seemed classic on a 1-1 count a pitch around 6 inches off the plate to adames was called a strike, he did not challenge. Making the count 1 and 2 instead if 2 and 1. Then on a 2-2 pitch he takes a pitch which was a strike and challenges and loses. Just one example. Yesterday a bunch of baseball were called strikes and the giants challenged only once. I am not talking about pitches less than 2 inches off the plate, but pitches around 3 inches or more off the plate. Other teams seem to be much better at it. An odd thing about these challenges is that they seem to at times swing the momentum of the inning.
Yeah I think TonyV is letting the vets "do their thing" and it ain't workin'. They are indeed terrible. I agree that the team has not adapted to ABS.
Is that on the coaches? TonyV? Buster?
I don't know but they need to fix it before next year.
I think they needed to fix it before Monday night's game. It cost Webb around 12 pitches, a run, and most likely the game.
All of this may be correct, but you know what would REALLY help? A reliable reliever.
+1
