Tyler Mahle was swapped for 24-year old RH reliever Anthony Molina (Braves).
Caleb Killian and Luis Arraez were swapped for four two Philadelphia minor leaguers: 20-year old RH starter Ramon Marquez, 22-year old RH reliever Marty Gair, 23-year old switch-hitting OF John Spikerman, and 23-year old RH starter Luke Gabrysh. Looks like just the first two. The earliet report I read was premature and in error as both teams have now officially announced the trade. Thinking about Tarik Skubal's return as the benchmark means the Giants did OK here.

Robbie Ray goes to the Padres for two minor leaguers, 24-year old RH starter Miguel Mendez and 17-year old Cuban-born SS Joniel Hernandez (who is currently raking .303/.424/.503 in the Dominican Summer League).
Again, thinking in terms of Skubals, the Giants did OK here.

Word is Erik Miller goes to the Red Sox for 23-year old lefty-hitting infielder Marcelo Mayer who was the #4 pick in the 2021 draft.
Also that Heliot Ramos is going to the Yankees for a 22-year old lefty starter named Henry Lalane and possibly infield prospect Kaeden Kent.
These obviously are not money-saving moves, more like moving guys who have hit their ceiling and trying out younger guys.

Hope for 2029, if the giants don't find a way to give away more pitching talent. I would have rather they find a way to have extended Arraez contract while he is in his prime.
Killian is 29 so it's not like they are waiting for him to break out.
Look at what the Dodgers gave up for Tarik Fucking Skubal: three minor leaguers!! To be fair, they were "top 20" (#5, #7, #17) in that system. But the Dodgers kept their #1 guy (Josue De Paula, AA OF, #4 ranked in MiLB). How could the Tigers give up Skubal and not get a #1 guy?
It's hard to get "real value" for a mid-season trade. Most of the time the team is just desperate to get something, which is fucked up.
The Tigers really shit on their fans, I think. They still had a chance to make the playoffs. With Skubal gone that chance is gone. If they were going to dump him, they should have done it in the off-season and got a real package for him.
If I'm a Tigers fan I'm mailing turds to the Front Office! Their GM is Scott Harris, former Giants/Zaidi guy, but I suspect it is Ownership that calls the final plays.
It is easy to blame the fucked up economics of MLB but it's not like Detroit can't afford to spend money. They just choose not to. LA may be the Evil Empire but they are serious about winning. Even if Detroit owners can't "afford" Skubal they certainly could have decided that earlier and made a better move. This is pure dump-and-run and hope the fans forget about it.
With the lockout looming perhaps it is just simple cost-cutting.
I'm not seeing any confirmation on the two other guys in the Arraez/Killian trade. It is clear the Giants get Marquez and Gair. It looks like that's it. I think the original rumor about the trade was mistaken.
If you view everything from the point of view that a lockout is inevitable, then it makes sense for teams like the Giants to stock the lower and mid-levels of the farm system. Those guys are cost-controlled for years.
Now Robbie Ray is a Padre, in exchange for a AA pitcher and a shortstop prospect.

We have control of Ramos for several years. The idea that he is Glenallen Hill in the outfield is nonsense. Better get a good return for him. Being I am relatively old, I would like to see them contend before 2029 or 2030.
I think they view Ramos as hitting his ceiling as a player.
The guy finally seems to have harnessed a modicum of control. With control, Miller could be really good. Unless we get a few mlb ready players this team could actually lose 100 games.
This team isn't going anywhere. It's time to hit the "reset" button.
Miller is another frustrating one, like Doval. The Giants finally moved on from him, too. Miller is 28, he should be at his best.
His ceiling, if he hit it was as an OK decent player, especially vs. Lefties, with 3 years of control. I hope the return pays off soon.
